Really odd this. I went to bed last night putting my phone on the bedside table as always. Woke up this morning to find that the screen had cracked from top to bottom. I was originally going to claim on my phone insurance for a new screen but a quick search online showed that this is not a unique event. It appears that quite a few people have had the screen on the Galaxy S3 simply crack with no impact or obvious cause. Mine has now been sent off to O2 for an examination by an engineer but I do not hold out much hope. Even though the cracks appear to be under the front piece of glass (the screen is smooth to the touch) I cannot prove that I did not drop it and it would be easy for them to claim that it was accidental damage. Still, worth a try before I pay out the excess on my phone insurance.

Anyone else heard of this.

Whats the temperature change like with and without heating on. Friend of mine had the same thing was told by the retailer she bought it from was because the Samsung screens aren't very good in the cold weather and they get brittle and when the screen comes back the miniscule amout of heat causes the inner glass to crack.

Not sure how true that actually is but it what the guy in the Vodaphone shop told her.....

Still on the bright side i'm an iPhone user so no problems here.... (wheres the gloating smiley)

Having done quite a bit of research, I am surprised that there has not been more publicity on this as it does not seem a unique event. I remember when Ipods had fragile screen issues and that was all over the press.

Personally I have no problem with iphones and would have one if it were not for the fact that you tend to pay more for the contract and have to pay towards the phone as well.

I will post on here when I hear back from O2 but there are certainly reports that Vodaphone admit that there is an issue and are doing exchanges.

Good luck I hope you can get it fixed under warranty. I would be extremely surprised if Vodaphone or Samsung admit theres an issue with the display though. This would just open up floodgates and I cant see them doing that.

Most likely is a design fault from what I read on the net about it. If you need to repair this yourself and at your cost you might be lucky and only need the top glass. The LCD and digitizer might still be ok, £20 instead of £150:eek:

Glass has a memory.
You can bash it and apparently get away with it but 3, 6 or more mnths later it will crack for no apparent reason
Good luck with the claim.

Not the end of the world if it not fixed or replaced under warranty as I do have the phone separately insured as part of my bank account so it will only cost me £25 in excess to have it fixed. I am more concerned that there is actually an inherent fault as I could do without losing my phone every few months when I have to send it to have another screen replaced.

I have had mine for nearly 6 months now and it has had a pretty rough life so far and not had a problem. Could it be just a dodgy batch of screens/glass?

Mine was pretty much dead on 6 months old when it happened. Up to then it was fine, not a mark or scratch on the whole phone.

My iPhone 4 and so far 5 no issues like this.
Strange how this has not had as much publicity as he left hand signal dropping the iPhone 4 had. I think that's because iPhone users don't need to try and pick fault with the other phones, we know ours are superior.

So superior, that many IP5 owners reporting damaged phones straight out of the brand new sealed box.
