Cant believe what I have just watched. Chasing 458, to set a world record victory the Saffers shut up shop with 4 overs left, 3 wickets in hand needing just 16 to win. Utterly embarassing yellow bellied end to what should have been the greatest test match of all time.

And Dale Steyns view on the decision? He planted the final ball once the match was safe 20 rows back into the stands

As an ardent England cricket fan, I'm not criticising any cricket team... apart from the gutless performance from, supposedly, the best England team for many years.

The opposite actually, been a very decent game for me, will pay for christmas and some of her forays into the Jan sales lol, post is more as a cricket lover (who's falling out of love) than a punter. There again when all 3 results have been at 20/1 or bigger before the final hour I should be able to win :)

I am absolutely livid about it. Sat through hours and hours of the game. We were dead and buried yesterday morning. I was hoping to bat through and secure a draw first thing this morning but my mood changed as the day went on. Whoever are the decision to avoid the loss should be relieved of their role in the setup. I would rather they lost trying to win than have that draw. Pathetic! Ball was 48 overs old and we had 3 wickets in hand. WTF???!!! Gutless

It's extremely dodgy

I hope it's nothing to do with betting

OP was sort of aimed at you mate and got the expected response. I watched all but every ball of the test, Sadly the decision was made based on it being a 2 match series and the effect losing would have on the world rankings. Completely missed the point of the opportunity they had to create history in a format of the sport that really could do with it too! Without doubt a couple of big Vern boundaries and wouldve been the best test ever, as it was left a slightly nasty taste in the mouth

Almost certain it wasn't, seen many a fixed game over the last 5 years and none of the usual patterns were seen thankfully. I think the scenario that arose was so unlikely that it happened too quick for anything "dubious" to have been arranged. That and they get plenty of chances with the endless limited overs games

You never know these days , you just never know ......................

I have a feeling that only South Africa would play for a draw in those last four overs. They do seem to play not to lose rather than to win. They could have set the best ever last innings total to win, but preferred to settle for a draw. Such an anti climax, and the crowd told the players what they thought of them.

pardon my ignorance, never really understood cricket scoring. If I'm reading this correctly they had 24 balls left, 3 players in hand and only needed 16 runs to win..............and they offered a draw?

Never understood how different scores end in a draw:confused:

Not so much offered the draw but basically didnt try to score off the last 24 balls so as not to risk losing. As they hadnt reached their target, or lost all their wickets then the match ends in a draw

I hope not as well, saw it on Sky Sports News last night and couldn't believe the ending. IPL is possibly the most corrupt league in the history of sport, it only makes sense for it to trickle into the test format.
Then again, such a high profile game and ending, would they dare?
For now I'm putting it down to the last 2 batsmen completely bottling it instead of trying to get themselves into cricketing folklore.

I watched the end of it and was disgusted, couldn't believe they didn't go for it at least until one more wicket went down anyway!

P.S I think spineless should be reserved for only one cricket team at the moment and we all know who that is!

As an Indian supporter, I had stopped watching. Other than Sami, None of the Indian bowler turned up to play.

After the morning it was a dead end for India, so did not bother looking, so imagine the surprise when my dad told me about the results.. Had to relook at the last few overs. Needless to say, the jingles of match fixing started ringing soon enuf.

While shame about the result, what a great Test match it turned out to be.

Bit harsh vkurup, Zaheer bowled himself into the ground on the last day (without any luck) and Ishant caused most of the damage in the 1st inns. The massive issue for India is they insist on keep picking Ashwin as their best spinner and he is far from that (as 42 wicketless overs again proved in this test)
