Just got myself a Mizuno MP 10 56/10 wedge (Black Satin).

What a great club. Loads of spin.

My old black ox sand wedge was looking a bit worn groove wise, so decided to get one of the New MP 11. However the pro in the shop told me that this model has the new V Grooves, but the MP 10 has the old box grooves and Mizuno are only able to sell the old groves till the end of this year. So got one of those.

I have never seen the ball spin back before, not from shots I’ve hit anyway. I just get the ball to stop until now. Was playing on Friday at the Dornoch Struie course and the greens were still pretty firm.

It’s a bit of a pain the ball ends up further from the hole. :( :(

What do you prefer spin or not?

I would love just enough spin to have the ball stop exactly where it lands on a full approach shot.

Same here. A lot of our greens are raised with big run offs at the front. Nothing worse than thinking you have hit a good shot, and then see it suck off the front 30 yards !

My longer irons do generally stop within 3 feet of it's pitch mark, however, I miss a lot of greens so it doesn't help me ;)

I have only recently got the 'two bounces and stop' pitch shot working with any kind of consistancy and it helped me to a net 73 on Friday which cheered me up a lot :)

If you dont want it to spin, hit the next club up, easier.

easier than.........?
say you have a sw on full yardage, hit a pw or gap a little easier, it wont spin so much....or punch a 7 up there, just dont be thinking shank as they can read minds. :D

Thanks, I don't think that's "easier" though, you are just changing the type of shot you are playing.

ANyway, that isn't what the OP was asking.

My wedges usually stop more or less where they land which suits me fine. Having to judge 10-15 feet of backspin which seems to vary every time (although no doubt impressive) just makes hitting a good shot harder, and golf's quite hard enough tbh.

I hate spin.
When I pitch past the hole I don' t get any and when I pitch short the ball sucks back 15 feet.
What's that all about then?

My ball control on full approach shots is just fine, it's around the green and half pitch shots where I struggle to get any check whatsoever.

I'd very much like to be able to get the "bounce, bounce, check" type pitch shots when around the green but don't seem to be able to. It's a smidge annoying.

Other than that, the spin I get with mid irons and wedges from 60 yards or more in, I'm more than happy with.

I was replying to you not the op otherwise it would have been his name above the post. You are still using a full swing just pilot hitting it just as hard. Its not like you are changing to a pitch, chip or punch.

Thanks again, now once my grandmother has this egg in her mouth what does she need to do next?? :D

I try not to play with too much spin on my approach shots as it's one more thing to try and factor in. I just try and play an easy club in and if I'm right on the mark in terms of distance for say my 8 or 9 then I'll hit one more especially now the greens are holding again. Even if I'm slightly long it'll still be middle of the green. The only time I really look for spin is with some of my chips and pitches around the green
