Hi guys,

Our smaller society (9 golfers) will be off to Dartmouth in May, and as I'm organising I'm also responsible for prizes too. We have a budget of £15 per golfer, so £135 for the 4 days. Not all rounds will have prizes, but it's at least nice to have a first/second and a few NTP's etc to share around.

What sort of thing do people like to receive for prizes? Previously stuff like balls/caps/beer have been handed out, but just wondering if anyone has some ideas, before I go down the 'normal' route.

Society branded golf towels, can usually pick them up for around less than £7 embroidered. These do good deals and can do t-shirts too

Also get a horses arse for the booby prize, you can just let them keep it between matches

Other prizes like golf brollies, lessons voucher, or non golf related bits

Vouchers for AG are good, balls in all honesty not so much, you will never please everyone.... A free lesson, or swing analysis with local pro? Polo shirts?

I do one for the 16 of us on a 4 day tour.

Collect £15 off everyone and have cash prizes each day for first, second and third and the usual bits for NTP and LD. But also have a donkeys head cover for last place each day and this year going to try and do a shortest drive each day with something comical as the prize. Won't announce doing the shortest drive but will get someone from each 4 ball to keep thir eyes peeled for the shortest in their group.

Final day the perosn in last prize gets something too - last year was a "Beginners guide to Golf" book and year before was a bunch of ladies golf bits and pieces - pink tees, cheap womans golf top off ebay etc...

cash prizes at the society i play with - usually around 20 of us, £20 - £15 - £10 for 1st/2nd/3rd & £5 for NTP. guess its much easier than sorting gifts every month. works for us.

How about some vouchers for the local pro shop rather than AG or DG.

In these times it would be good to support them and a society should a good little earner for them.

Also nothing worse than winning 2 sleeves of balls you'd never use when you'd rather the chance to buy something you like.

When I was involved in Junior golf it was amusing to observe clubs giving a new putter to the winner of the putting competition.

Played in a Charity Day once - the winner of the Longest drive (me) got a driver, the nearest the pin winner got a wedge and the fewest putts winner got a putter

Really well thought out, that one........

Same thing happened to me at ST MELION won longest drive and was presented with a shiny new driver only trouble was it had MD on it,think crown golf has something to to with them, took it to the pro shop there and asked to change it he laughed and said i could have something to the value of £25,after telling him to stick it i gave it as a prize in a junior comp.

Do not buy towels, gloves, balls, or T-shirts. I find it really annoying to win a prize that you are never going to use and end up giving it away to one of my mates as I am not a lover of Pinnacle balls and Donnay gloves....lol

Try and be original like has been said about getting a horses arse for the worst player.

Bob's idea of a putting aid for the most putts taken is a good one.....I am sure he can advise you on where you can get a good one.....
