... your entire golf game falls apart.

Is it a wedge or a 4 iron ? Who knows, your GPS addiction is apparent to all as you scrabble about on the fairways trying to catch a glimpse of that Heavenly Screen.

I'd say it must rank 3rd in the list of Things That Are Really Hard To Give Up behind:-

#2: Heroin (No personal experience but Trainspotting made it look a bit unpleasant) and, of course,

#1: Chutney (Who can resist ?)

Mmmmmmm Chutney !!!!!

I played my course using my gps and had a 78 .. played in a medal and because they are in the dark ages and dont allow them to be used I shot a 90. I was just guff that day as well.

What are you talking about? :D

One day I play a GPS mapped course, the next day not. Thankfully I haven't played anywhere in years with no strokesaver or similar in years; if I did, I'd use the marker posts, if none of those, I'd guess.

Is this a wind up?

I drive a car, I use a Tom Tom, but I can still use a map.

I'm not a thick teenager.

:)

Been there in the medal at a course (that I knew well) that didn't allow GPS or lasers - I have a Bushnell....didn't have a clue what to hit....

With a laser (or GPS) you know it's 143 yards, so you know it's an 8 iron so you ust hit it - I can eye 140/150 yards but the thing is is it 140 or 150? Is it an 8i or a 7i...doubts, doubts, doubts....chop...

The battery ran out on my bushnell tour v2 after 2 holes one day. I felt absolutely naked without it. I wouldn't say my game fell apart but I struggled with my yardages big time. Ever since I've carried spare batteries in my bag

Not so much a problem around the 150 or 100 yard marks and in between as we have markers which according to my SC are fairly accurate. The real problem would be inside 100 yards. Giving me the yardage and therefore which wedge is best suited is saving me several shots a round and the way I'm playing everyone makes a difference

The 4-iron or wedge bit was obviously tongue-in-cheek but I did feel severely disadvantaged without GPS. I guess that some people are good at judging distance and selecting the right club and others, like me, are not.

all you really need to do is keep you eye on the yardage markers at the side of the fairway... quick glance over when you're in line and each step that you take past the marker, you can take 1yd off. It's not totally exact, but it's a hell of a lot more accurate than just looking and guessing.

I'm terrible at judging distances. I can barely tell the difference between 125 and 150.

Thinking logically, the par 3s and par 5s ought to be OK without any distances whatsoever (as long as there are no nasty hazards at lay-ups). Short par 4s should be OK too, it's the long holes that I need help with (in more ways than one!!)

I really feel that courses that use 150 posts ought to have 200 posts on anything over 375 and 100 yard ones on short holes. I can't be doing with the "3 sets" approach, it seems overkill, but if a course did it this way, it might make more sense.

I like my distances, particularly distance to the back.....only a DMD can offer this.

Before I got my Bushnell Laser I used to pace the yardage from the marker which are to the centre of the green at my place and then add or subtract 1/4 of the green length depending on whether the flag was front or back. It was OK but I hit it much closer with the laser which is why it has it's own pocket in my bag accompanied by the spare batteries.

I'm absolutely useless at judging distances visually. I always used to come up short.

for the visually challenged there is little to compare with the SC, especially if one is also spacially challenged and can play from two fairways away (see I do play just like Tiger - just don't have a caddy to do the running).

as for Chutney, depends what type - I have a very good mango, a quite acceptable tomato and chilli and (though not sure if this qualifies) a fiery lime pickle. (oh and of course the ubiquitous Branston)

I agree with Steve. For the directionally challenged amongst us, a Bushnell Laser isn't much good amongst the trees or down a bank designed to protect the adjacent fairway.

HID does a nice line in home made chutneys but her home made tomato ketchup (with a chilli kick) is awesome

Is the yardage from the right or the left post, or the middle of the fairway - in a straight line or an arc, to the front or the middle or the green, and where is the pin by the way?......probably may as well guess.... ;)
