Had my interview for membership last night... Really nice blokes (would say they were in their winter years) and they were happy with my knowledge of the rules.

Th final part of the process before I hand over £1000 is 9 holes with the club pro... I called this morning and was told he was booked up for a week! I am crawling the wall knowing I am one step away from unlimited golf.

I'm quite shocked how hard it is to hand this money over... I would think they would bend over backwards to accommodate me.

I'm working away this week (Reading) but can get back to Brum for 5 and at the course for half past! I would think working a couple of hours if that extra would be in the clubs interest.

As the pro came back and said definitely no room I rang the club this evening and asked to speak with a member of the committee - I explained the situation and asked if a committee member can do it instead. He was really nice and is getting the gent who interviewed me to call tomorrow.

I know I might look impatient but the missus is on a hen do this weekend and it being a bank holiday I thought I can get some serious practise in. Am I expecting too much?

I'd be a bit careful but they can only say no -it has to be the pro. Which club is it ?

It's to check I can at least hit a ball and know the basic rules. It has to be done for any new member who doesn't have a current handicap.

seems a bit odd that its the pro that has to play with you. make sure you get all the tips you can off him. surely the pro has more important things to do rather than make sure your not going to dig up the course. one hole would be enough to find out if you can hit the ball or not. i just find all this a tad odd!

Especially as a playing lesson at mine is at least £50!! Milk the info as much as you can!!

I agree with garyinderry, all seems a bit OTT for me. When the dude calls you back tomorrow then tell him to get someone out with you before the weekend or you will join another golf club. Thats what i would do, afterall it is a buyers market and am sure they need you as much as you need them.

Patience my friend. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end although it does seem a hassle if it has to be the pro only. Can't you ask if the captain can do it instead
