started off with a 5 on the par 4 1st, best start yet, then a 4 on a par 3, then a par 3, getting there I thought... nah,

next 3 holes 8, 8 and then with 2 oob's and a duff into the bunker finally taking a 10!!! I said balls to it am going home as I was ready to snap my clubs in half and had got myself pretty worked up, mate told me to have a word with myself and just enjoy the rest of the round

par'd the next then went 6,6,6,6 on 4 par 4's

On the 12th I hadnt entered nearest the pin as I always seem to struggle on the par 3's... 139 yard, 8 iron bang, 12 inches from the pin!!! holed the putt for a birdie

so no threat of a cut, total score was 104 net 76!!!

Whats annoying is I can make some pars, the odd birdie but have got to cut out the big blow up scores as they are wrecking my round and severely denting my confidence. Gonna start playing more by doing a couple of evenings 9 holes and a full 18 every weekend from now on

Stupid bloody game :D

Your mates right, if the round goes pear shaped then use the rest as a practice round and enjoy the time on the course...........however......I know how you feel, we've all been there........

Think about what causes the big scores.
If you're ploughing it into the clag with the driver then hit a 3 wood or 5 wood or even hybrid/long iron and keep it in play.
That 906f is a great club but not the most forgiving fairway you could use.
If you can keep the ball in play you:ll score better. Take a 500 yard par5.
Pick a club you can hit around 180 yards. That leaves you about 320 to go. Hit another 170-180 yarder and you have a short iron into the green. Even if you get down in 4 from there its still only a double and you'll get a shot or two to compensate.
Don't just pull the driver out until you actually need it.

I can't think why you would consider walking in!

Its a game, you play off 28, surely you work out where its going wrong and correct it. Walking in, to me,is the same as having a tantrum after a bad shot.

I lay you a pound to a penny that the 8's come from compounding the original error, you have to get back on track on the hole the easiest way possible and live with the dropped shot/s.

Your mate will never give you sounder advice and... a 10 on the card is not just the preserve of the high handicapper

Enjoy the game Gibbo, thats why you are out there !

costing me the most shots is the odd stupid duff off the tee then trying to blam the second to make up for it :)

chipping was also hit and miss trying shots beyonfd my ability so played the last 4 or 5 by just using my pw and little pitch shots on. Putting was pretty solid but did also have 2 3 putts.

You are right about the 3 wood, am on the hunt for a replacement, got it for free so no biggy changing it.

I dont think I would have really walked in, was just being a big girl and having a slight hissy fit, soon sorted by a 2 min relax and a ciggy :D

I'm hardly in a position to give advice playing off a handicap of 24.4, but you must begin to realise that playing off these high handicaps means that we are going to have bad holes/days, the thing is to try and learn to accept them and try to find ways around them.

On Saturday I had three 8's on my card, a birdie 2 (holed a 35 foot putt), 3 pars, and ended up with 33 stableford points. Did i beat myself up?, no, because of my handicap I know I am going to have bad holes.

But I had a great time playing with 3 guys I had never played with before in lovely weather and walked off knowing what a lucky person I am.
So learn to appreciate your circumstances, keep practicing and I am sure that your consistancy will come that inturn will give you better scores, well that's what I try to do.

Good luck.

thats what I do normally, think I was just expecting a bit better after playing quite well recently.

Apart from the 3 hole blowup I was in good spirits the rest and would rather be hacking a ball around than at work or home doing the daily chores :)
