Smoking ban for Florida prisoners begins in six months

Florida prisoners who smoke are kicking the habit before Sept. 30. They have no choice.

Corrections officials are banning smoking at state prisons, giving inmates six months' warning and offering prisoners help quitting

Beginning Sept. 30, cigarettes will be considered contraband, and prisoners caught smoking will face possible discipline – including visitation restrictions and loss of gain time.

Answer - they have real politicians with balls and they don't have to listen to those European monkeys making up pathetic rules all the time.

Rant over - thank you for listening. :)

Its the same way that they have a "life means life" policy, the same way that they have chain gangs out working etc.

We are a namby pampy pathetic state, so much so I am seriously considering emigrating. The working class of this country get ripped off left right and centre to fund louts and layabouts. Sick of it.

Best thing I ever did TheCraw, off my arse, bag of cash - and headed away.

England's gone to the Dogs, has been since before I was born in the mid 80's.

Why waste a lifetime working in the UK for next to nothing at the end of it, when you could be working and enjoying life on other shores - not having your golf ruined by the weather too!

The more I see/hear the less I want to stay here. USA would be my choice to emigrate to but no chance of getting in there.

This is still something I consider, but it's not as obvious a choice as you would think.

Life looks like a bed of roses in the US, but it's not always the case.

And of course there are no illegal drugs or booze in American prisons??

And why is banning cigarettes in prison a sign of a strong politicial system???

Oh they also have a huge amount of guns of there you know, which has resulted in the pointless deaths of millions of people but banning cigarettes in prison, yeah that will show the criminals won't it.

Compared to the vast majority of this planet you (and I) live in a utopia.

Well said, bloody great this country, not perfect but USA?? you can not be serious.

I agree. The UK isn't perfect but America??? Really???

There's at least 10 countries I'd live in before that place.

Moving to America from the UK is the equivalent of saying "I'm fed up with supporting Crystal Palace - I'm off to support a decent team - like Millwall!"

Hmmmm America. They use torture, imprison people without trial and execute people who have the mental age of children. They defend the right of citizens to carry deadly weapons..... I could go on.

I think these type of policies pander to the lowest common denominator in society and it actually takes politicians with balls not to go down that road. Britain is OK. Mistakes have certainly been made over the last 40 years but it's still a pretty good life here.

America is a very poor example of fair justice. Their justice system is more fecked up than the UK by a long stretch and as much as I detest smoking, this is probably just a stunt to win some local politician favour among those who just want to further oppress the overhwlemingly black and hispanic prison population.

By contrast, note that in this whole banking crisis, which is characterised by many rich white people giving and taking bribes, conning millions, stealing fortunes and lying and cheating right, left and centre, not a single person has been charged with anything. Law and Order, my arse.

I love the states and would live there (but only in the Pacific North West), but I did LOL at this. There are parts of America I would NEVER venture to! the USA in general is F'd up!

And England's pretty shoite right now, but this place is my home and I love it dearly. My friends are here, my family are here and aside from paying too much for alot of things, I wouldn't change a thing.

The thing is, cost of living is pretty similar in both places.
It seems cheap when you're on holiday buying cheap clubs\clothes\whatever, but actually living there is a different matter.

Example; income tax here is higher, but it effectively includes health insurance. In the US you take home more until you pay for this, then you're effectively 'taxed' just as much.

And they get about a week's paid holiday a year! Seriously their paid leave is appauling!

Makes our 28 days look more than luxurious!

And you're right about cost of living (I lived there for 6 months), but there are things that we are completely shafted for, petrol being the biggest example.

There was a huge uproar when their fuel rose from $1.50 a gallon to $1.90 a gallon...In contrast, it costs us around $8-9 a gallon for fuel. :-/

It's getting near $4 there now, compared to about $7 here.

The holiday allowance is rubbish, add in the funny sick\holiday thing (no paid sick).

I've lived there for a few years, and still might go back, but not because its millions better than the UK.

Its not the land of milk and honey that some imagine.

USA -great coutry if you have money, but don't be poor, don't be sick and don't expect to see more than 5mins of golf without an advert. ;)
