Work seems to be going well on the changes to the 18th at Gleneagles ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Will be good to see how it beds in when the tour is there in August.

I think from memory it's changing from a dreadful, uphill, boring and featureless par 5 to a uphill 480 plus yard par 4 with a raised green and stadium banking around the green.

they are going to try it on the 10th and if ok use it on all the greens, but most american course have it already and i think a couple in the u.k

Brother in law is a greenkeeper on that course, been working all hours making alterations for the RC and said that the sub air system on the 10th is rolling out to all greens asap.

Alan plan is to get rid of the uphill slope altogether, they are bringing the green down to the same level as the fairway so that you can see all of the green on your second shot.

Apparently it has dropped around 30ft from its origional position, does look miles better than before and should be an exciting finishing hole.

Am I right in thinking it's a 480 yard plus par 4 tho Toad?

Anything will be an improvement.:mmm:

Yeah will be 480+ from the back sticks, was bland as hell before and a very poor finishing hole.
Seeing the green from the fairway can only help and the new banking will make great viewing.

I'm playing there in June, I hope it's ready to play then otherwise i'll be pretty pissed off!

Thank the lord they are taking such big measures to address it - uphill slog to half blind green is no way to finish any course never mind the RC. They should use all 3 courses up there. Rotate them each day

I think it will look really good when it is finished. Reminding me abit of the 18th at the Celtic Manor without the water. Dont know if anyone else sees that.

Thats some amount of earth needing shifted to be able to see the green after a 30ft drop, are they trying to make it flat from the dogleg to the green now?

Personally I felt it needed a water feature before the green and making it a risk/reward 2nd shot.

Darth that is what they want, but think there wil be a slight incline but nothing like before. The brother in law said they shifted earth for what seemed like forever to drop and reshape the fairway all the way up to the green.
Impressive stuff when you see it in the flesh.

Darth this what they said they are doing.

From the landing area, approximately 289yards up, the fairway will be levelled with some 35,000 tonnes of material being moved. The majority of this work is to remove the rise in the hole and flatten it out. The hole currently rises seven metres from the landing area to the centre of the green. The fairway will now only rise two metres from the landing area until you get to the changes in elevation at the green.

Thanks Toad, that certainly changes the hole now
