This is starting to drive me nuts now

I have a laptop that shouldn't be slow, in fact it ought to zip along.
It's supposedly a multimedia laptop (which isn't why I chose it) but it's worst when watching embedded video. I suspect it's an issue with Flash on a 64-bit machine even though the browser runs as 32-bit, although I'm not certain.

This site is really slow sometimes, but if I disable flash it's much better but not great.

The discs don't need defragging and the temporary files are cleared regularly. I also check for any updated drivers quite regularly.
Looking at task manager the CPU is regularly over 40% when only browsing the internet and memory usage can get over 70% quite easily.

I use Avira antivirus which says all clear, and spyware progs also report nothing major.

Spec is...

HP Pavilion dv8
Intel i7 CPU Q720@1.60GHz
4GB Ram
NVidia GeForce GT 230M
Win7 Home Premium 64-bit
The hard drive is in 3 partitions.
C: 132GB free / 282GB Total
D: (Used for restore points) 48GB free / 298GB Total
E: (Recovery) 2.5GB free / 15GB Total

Can anyone offer any suggestions please? I can't even begin to guess how many times I've shouted at it "WTF ARE YOU DOING?????"

Thank you :)

The flash version on Redtube isn't compatible with 64 bit machines, Gaz. Stop watching so many naughty videos, this should sort the problem out ;)

As if!

I remember when I first got it Flash didn't support 64-bit. Then they had a Beta version, now it's built in to Chrome.

It's not just when playing videos though.

Redtube you say? Hmmmm

I had a similar prob recently,so started deleting things till i found the culprit. It turned out to be a conflict between the flash player and the DivX player.
Recent versions of flash seem to be full of bugs.
It's also notoriously temperamental about certain browsers,i always used Firfox, but had so many probs with Firefox and Flash that i went back to IE8.
Sometimes deleting all versions of Flash and doing a fresh install helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did try using IE instead of Chrome for a bit and it was better but not a lot.

How would I go about finding out what if anything is giving flash the grief?
