Anyone on here who has Sky and is using (or trying to use) Sky On Demand?

After much pestering I got everything set up a couple of days ago to be able to use this 'service'. Is it just me or is it just a dog of a service with downloads taking hours - hardly 'on demand'.

Which part are you having difficulty with? What is your broadband connection speed as, with all things online, this will play a factor.
I have a 10Mbps connection and can access and view a 2Gb file in around 10 mins from starting the download.

Would tend to agree with this. We have BT Infinity which is running at about 35Mbps and don't really have any problems with the service.

We have the On Demand service. Its the nuts

We downloaded 8, 20 minute programs for out little boy (Waybuloo), didn't take long at all.

What's your internent speeds like?

We got it with the Wireless connector to start but the download speeds were horrific and that's with BT infinity 2.
Got myself a couple of AV plugs and you can watch a program within seconds of starting the download.

I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. Downloaded the full box set of Sopranos and currently viewing 2 day every day.

I checked my broadband speed using ZDNet - just under 8Mbps. Experience here seems more positive than feedback I'm getting elsewhere - others do seem to being dogged by very poor download speeds. It took an hour for my Mrs to download an episide of Corrie last night.

I'm using the Sky wireless box so I'll try connecting to the router using an ethernet cable - though checking my Sky box the Network speed 'looks' (it's a bar indicator) good.

I'm afraid I don't understand the second (AV) part of your reply.

We had an excellent connection with the wireless router also but it was useless.

AV plugs (also called home plugs) allows you to hardwire all your internet devices. You simply plug them into an electric socket and then run the ethernet cable from the AV plug to the sky box. Search for them on the internet for more info. You need 2 to start off (1 to plug your router into and the other for your device).

I purchased these:

The main reason I had to do this was the BT would only install the router at the main phone socket which happened to be in the kitchen. My office is upstairs and we didn't want additional wiring trailing all over the house. The set up was really easy, just plug into the mains where the router is and the other into the nearest socket to your computer (or Sky box) and then use ethernet cables to connect devices.

I find it really reliable and get good speeds.

We've got sky Broadband and using Speedtest I get a wireless connection on my phone of about 8-9meg. I have the sky box connected to the router with ethernet cable rather than wifi and I think the OD service is fantastic. I downloaded 6 episodes of Boardwalk in HD the other day and was watching the first within 2-3 minutes and they were all down in about half an hour at a guess.

Ok - now this is sounding a bit more positive as I have also just set up Power Line (actually to connect my Blu-ray player to the internet but I'm not too botehred about that).

> Sky Wireless network speed looks good but downlood speed is crap? TICK
> Power Line adaptor in place to support wired connection? TICK
> Download speed 'sorted' using Power Line?

thanks for feedback all

Looks like that has sorted it - but will see how it works this evening when Sky On Demand service will be under greater strain than it will be at the moment. If all OK then my Sky Wireless receiver box will be on it's way back to Sky and I'll be seeking a refund.

Tried to get this service myself but my box doesn't appear to have an ethernet socket (it's the old grey Pace sky+ type) so It's a bit annoying...damned if I'm paying for a new box when I don't need one though

You need an ethernet socket in the Sky+ box to connect the Sky Wireless Box in any case...no other connection options between the Sky Wireless Box and your Sky+ box being obvious as the SWB only has an ethernet socket for signal output.

Now what do I do with my SWB? £22 back or re-use for something else - any ideas anyone (I've thought of doorstop but it's too light).

i stopped - on demand - as my SKY BB d/load speed of a whopping 340kbps nearly had me lobbing a PW at the tv:rofl:

BT and virgin have been banging my door/street for ages tempting me with 20MB d/load speeds, maybe time to switch........what a pain, why cant SKY just give me a decent BB speed as I'm prob 600 metres to the exchange as the crow flies

Sky on demand is so slow, I've a poor broadband speed so that doesn't help, maybe it's time to go fibre optic so I can use my smart hub properly

All fine here.

You are aware that after about 30secs you can start watching the download...you don't need to wait until its all downloaded.

How? Just tried to download a film today, I pressed play but it doesn't respond. I had to stop the download, only then would it playback
