SKY charging additional fees for Premier League

I think all club season ticket holders should be given individual code that gives them free access to all their teams televised games.
For free?

Most season ticket holders have had funds set aside for when they can go again. I’d be amazed if clubs wanted to miss out on thousands of possible sky purchases for just good Will.

Whilst they may (not all subscribe to footy) lose their £30 a month subscribers. They could sweep up on people paying £15 per game. People are also fickle. When things return to the norm people would sign up again for the big games. I’m not saying it would be right if they did it, just that it would surprise me.

As to the stopping of sharing devices, I think they recently added box office to sky, but not sure if it is shareable yet atm tbh.

how many people do you think are paying £15 a game at the moment? And why do you think sky are refusing to release viewing figures?

I agree people are fickle but pretty sure for a lot this along with the plans of some of the big clubs will be the straw that breaks the camels back, especially when for a lot money is very tight

Plenty of people who have paid sky a lot of money for a lot of years have just had enough of being exploited and will go down the "alternative route". Or not bother at all

To be able to get the Sky Sports box office you would need to have the subscriptions - football is the main pull for both Sky and BT - winning the football rights allowed BT sports to get a foot in.

Sky wouldn’t be too bothered because of the huge income from overseas rights but cherry picking would also be a marketing own goal - they aren’t daft

Box Office stuff isn’t shareable right now and don’t expect it ever to be

If they have paid for a season ticket, then why not give them free access to their teams ppv games?

If they start to cherry pick the better games on to PPV then that’s a sure fire way too lose subscriptions.

If they did do a season ticket there would be ways to stop other “devices” watching it - would be the best way for it to work.

This is the whole crux of what Liverpool and Man Utd and the other so called big clubs are trying to engineer towards though. They know the value of breaking up the rights and being able to sell the big games individually on a PPV basis worldwide and dont give a thought about the fans who have supported the clubs for decades and decades. The fact that it also increases the financial gap between them and the rest of the clubs just an added bonus that adds another level of security to ensure they can bleed more and more money from the fans and increase the self fulfilling prophecy of them as the bigger clubs, their games having more value etc etc

Because clubs don’t tend to give things away for free. As has been said, they will let people use any money paid for when they can go to games again.

I wouldn’t be surprised if your first point gets looked into. Why limit pay per view to just the limited amount of subscribers. You don’t need sky sports for the big boxing events.

If they did that then suddenly they’ve got millions more they can aim for.

I think numbers are low and they’re embarrassed by the figures. Let’s be honest though, they are the second rate games. Hence my point they may consider making the better games box office.

I am not saying the should or will do it, just that I reckon it’s at least been considered.

Its the whole basis of what they are aiming towards!!!!!

Bigger clubs selling the big games individually for more money and taking a far bigger share of the pie. Coming to a computer near you soon ;)

Fully agree. Only a matter of time imo. The big clubs are just righting off so much extra revenue atm with the way things are set up.

Yes. In the opinion of the broadcasters who calculate the revenue each game will bring through marketing. Or they’d have been the live games.....

not quite true, under current broadcasting rules they have an agreement that every side gets shown a certain amount of times currently to ensure that they dont show the same sides week in week out

Yes I know that. It’s why on pair of big clubs are never “randomly” drawn to play week in week out... but a judgement is still made.

I can see that Arsenal v Leicester May usually be picked, to whilst sheff Utd did well Last year. They aren’t highlight reel.

That being said look at most weeks and my point will stand. Leeds v Villa or Brighton v West Brom Arne gonna be top choices for the broadcasters unless fitting the numbers in.

That’s not strictly true though is it

The broadcasters are required to ensure their is a fair spread of games to show to ensure the media rights are spread out ( as opposed to just picking the best games )

What’s the bigger game - Newcastle vs Wolves or Arsenal vs Leicester ?

thats the whole crux of it currently, all sides get a fair ish representation (and financial reward) from the tv coverage

longer term the big clubs dont want this to continue and want what they deem their "fair share" of rights ie most of the pie

Covered that already.

Yes there will be the odd one that stands out. But look at the box office games last week, this week and next week and tell me that more of those are first pick than not.
