Is anyone else getting adverts that split either side of the screen and which I can't seem to find a way to get rid of?

Very annoying!

Don't mind adverts as bills got to be paid. But having adverts that compromise or even at times deliberately prevent you using the forum until you click on the advert is completely counter productive as people won't use the forum. Or force people to get adbloc which then means that the advertisers who are not coming up with very intrusive adverts are not getting value when advertising on the site. Which can't be helpful in the long term for the site/magazine. I've given up on the web sites of local papers now as they are mostly unreadable as they are just a mass of adverts popping up all the time with some text hidden in between.

Seems to happen a bit on here and you'd think the forum owners would be aware of this but it seems not.

How many forums are free? Erm every one I've ever been on, it's a portal into a website, magazine or such. If you had a paid forum, specially a golf one I'd guarantee it would have zero members.
argumentitive?

Any “free” forum I have been on with be either basic or have adverts

They won’t have a paid forum so will use adverts

If you don’t like the adverts then install Adblock - simples

Do you want to pay for the forum if it meant no adverts

I don't have an issue with a forum, or any other site using advertising as a measure of generating income as it's the nature of the internet beast. What I do have issue with is poorly thought out, developed and tested solutions. It's not hard to make sure that the advert, banner or integration that you intend to use doesn't infringe on usability.
These ads are shockingly developed and deployed and if I gave any of my clients digital solutions that damaged the user experience and then just said "well tell the client to use adblock" I wonder what would happen to the reminder of my contract with that client...?

No, while I am hugely appreciative that the site needs adverts to fund it, it also needs users to use the site to see the adverts for them to be of any value.

Adverts are a fact of life. However I do expect professional web designers to do their job competently and realise 'crap' adverts/web pages turnoff the audience they seek!!!
