Sir Cliff

The thing is, if it were you and I, chances are the name wouldn't have been released until arrests were made. I find it more disturbing that the press are already ahead of the game in terms of knowing what's going on and so any investigation must surely have a degree of taint and suspicion attached now

Oh, I don't know. A press release that police were looking for a Homer Simpson probably would catch some media interest.

you would have thought that after all the publicity over Savile, Stuart Hall, Rolf etc anyone who had suffered historical celebrity abuse would by now have come forward and reported their claims. Its almost like a witch hunt or Spanish Inquisition now.

Also one wonders what evidence would be still around after 30 years, Yes the police have to do their job, but it should be done with an element of discretion.

This is my thinking , unless he video'd or recorded it in some manner & its still there it how on earth would there be any evidence after 30 years?? and surely the "crime" scene would have been contaminated a zillion times over

Wasn't Cliff interviewed about the Yewtree thing?
Methinks there may be more to it than just this one case.

More to it - on what grounds? He was interviewed about the Yewtree thing? Well I wasn't aware of that and even if he was do we know the context of the interview. Maybe he was being asked if he was aware of anything happening back then - after all in the 70s and 80s he was a top pop star right slap bang in the middle of the pop business.

You'll be saying 'no smoke without fire' next.

See Christopher Jefferies for cautionary tale in respect of suspicion and malicious and unfounded gossip

Yeah, it says more about Society's insatiable greed for Celeb gossip than anything else.....

Nail + Hammer = nail hit on the head.

I can't stand all the celeb gossip rubbish, mrs R reads a lot of the gossip mags, oh my goodness they print some rubbish. I would say who actually cares, but its quite clear people do.

You're entitled to your opinion even though it's wrong. And you're already misquoting me to fit your argument.

I'm not making an argument - I'm simply thinking that I don't like all the conjecturing when there is nothing public in the way of evidence or anything - other than police searching his home. We really don't need to do that and I don't think we should be expecting skeletons in cupboard just because someone doesn't conform to the norm - whatever the norm might be. As I mentioned the way Christopher Jefferies was treated and talked about was awful and should surely caution against us thinking anything about someone just because of the way they look or do not seem to conform.

But maybe the salacious British public are desperate for this sort of thing - after all Kellie Maloney only spoke out when a newspaper was about to publish the story. Though an injunction had been taken out to prevent it the newspaper still wanted the story pout there

I believe people are ok to speculate that there might be something more to it.

Obvuously not goign to the lengths of the rags by claining the guilty already

Im also a bit unsure of him and it wouldnt suprise me if he was involved in something in the past

But why would you suspect him. To me he doesn't seem creepy like Savile or smothering like Stuart Hall - he's a very successful pop star who may or may not be gay and who has strong christian beliefs. If he is gay then his beliefs could make it difficult for him to come out - not that the majority if us would care a jot. And he speaks with a slight lisp - ah that's it! :)

Because he seems just a bit strange to me thats all - and having strong christian beliefs means nothing when you look at the scandal surrounding priests and the acts they have committed.

It could mean absolutely nothing and he is just a quiet recluse type or he could be hidding something

The " I knew there was something fishy going on all the time" brigade really make me want to bash my head against a brick wall.

You know absolutely NOTHING, None of us do.

It is this type of mentality that lynch mobs and kangaroo courts spring from.
Christopher Jeffries has already been mentioned as a prime example of how dangerous and damaging this type of speculation can be.

But it makes a good headlines and sells papers, so it must be Ok then.

Fair point mate. I think what I meant was it seemed odd for them to knock his door down just for the one complaint against him albeit a really serious one. I'm no police/legal expert but I'd have thought they would have got him in for questioning first.
I wasn't really suggesting he is implicated in other offences or at least that wasn't my intention, I see how you came to your conclusion though.
Anyway, time for a pint

Well said...I really hope this is all a huge mistake and Sir Cliff is totally innocent. The sad thing is the ones who are saying "I always thought he was a bit dodgy" etc etc now probably won't accept the judgement then and his name is sullied for ever.
