Silverwood GC, Lurgan

Havent been in years but remember the bar afterwards more than the course. Its certainly not as good as Lurgan gc.

Your insight is magic just the info I was looking for  (it might as well be for my record in these types of things isn't great;))

Alright mate

Im guessing its the Ulster Cup is it?

Played them in same comp 2 years ago, we went up for a practice round as well so have played it twice

Straight forward kind of course with every hole pretty much as you see it, the greens were in decent nick when we played there but that was later in year, dont imagine it will take rain very well though and the bunkers were a bit short on sand. Not a course I would pay to play again as its not exactly a top course and if you play well you will score well.

I won my match up there 6&5 so not a course you need to play often to get to know so with your game you will be OK

Very basic facilities which are shared with the dry ski slope so dont be expecting a strokesaver or anything, we were lucky to get a scorecard as they only had photocopies

On the first the stream is a lot easier cleared than it looks from the tee........we found that the par 3s played a bit longer than they are and the 18th is a god awful hole so win your match well before you have to play it

You will get taken to a local boozer for grub and the fellas that were playing when we played them were all sound but we suspected a bit of handicap protection from some of them, yes you guessed it they put us out:rolleyes:, although we should have beat them if a couple of our guys hadnt fell apart when they had their matches won.

All in all dont be getting too excited about playing there and once will be enough:whistle:

Cheers Stephen, I was away for a lesson tonight and chatting to the pro he seemed to think it was a bit like how you describe it.

Ulster cup then Jimmy Bruen a couple of weeks later should be a laugh

the wee nephew has played it. cant for the life of me remember what he said about it though. i think you have all you need to know from the above post anyway. good luck. let us know what you think.

Dont know if will get playing any team comps this year as im in Florida when the Bruen qualifying is on and we might not make it through

I always enjoy inter club golf so would be a bit disappointed if we dont make it through the qualifying.

Just remembered that on the 3rd at Silverwood you can cut the dogleg pretty easily and you wont need driver or youll run out of fairway at other side, i think im right in saying over the top of the tree is the line.

On the 10th dont go too far right from the tee or youll be blocked out by a big tree

If I remember anymore I will let you know

Good luck Chris, we play royal portrush at home Sunday and return leg next sat, looking forward to it.
I played lurgen course in bruen couple years back, didn't realise there was mire than one course there lol.

Ok Ok, some useless info then, when I played the greens were quite mossy in places and the bunkers were not great and after the night on the beer, I threw up over one of our groups best trousers while on the coach home.:D Ahh to be young and careless again...
Ballyliffin should be some steam if it had nights like that :D

Last years was pretty funny (and beery) stood on the 10th tee 2over on Sunday only to have my arse collapse. Wonder if they will have pints at the burger van this year

Should be a good laugh again mate, whats the plans for the saturday night anyway?

Nothing to stop you taking a beer in your bag, purely for medicinal purposes though:mmm:

Well your help and tips were superb Stephen, won my match 5 & 4 and the team took 2 1/2 matches good result! Nice track in good condition especially being a muni (not that that automatically means bad!) with really friendly guys.

Should be interesting next week at our place!

Well done on your win and not a bad result away from home:clap:

Im glad you took my advice and won it before having to play the 18th, what did you think of the place overall as a course?

Overall I liked it (for a parkland course ;)) Nice setting plenty of room, greens will be good in another month I reckon. The place has BAGS of potential if the council would throw some money at it it could be really good. All in all I would play it again if I was up that way and be happy.

Im a bit surprised you liked it that much mate, I and other guys in our team felt it was a decidedly average track, very open and lacking definition on many holes. Then again being a links guy you wouldnt want too many trees around would you:whistle:

If you like there youll love my place, when you get your ass down:rolleyes:
