Silly or interesting names for your holes? (so to speak)

Our course includes such gems as.....

The Kidney Trap
Chatburn's Plateau
Festival Avenue
The Graveyard
Canal view (the nearest canal is 20 miles away!)
Long Dog Leg (not very imaginative but it does what it says on the tin)

I was under the impression that all courses had names for their holes.
Is this not the case?

got to be honest, I always thought naming holes was a bit of an affectation and in many cases I still believe it's true. I can see the point were there is an historical connection, I believe one course has a hole named 'The Gybett'.

We have Old marl pit, Sparrow pot, Caractacus, Canal bottom, and Cock pit.

I am not a big fan of hole names. Numbers is fine. No one sits in the club house and says 'how did you find the pin position on the sparrow pot today?'

Fair enough if the course is very old, before there were 18 holes on a golf course, but now it just sounds pretentious. A bit like naming your house. If it is number 18, it is number 18, not dun roamin, or the cottage.

My club is currently running a competition to name the holes for our new scorecards.
I haven't entered because I can't think of any which won't be full of asterisks.

We played at Arras in France one day and were so digusted with the course we were making names up for the holes on the way round.
I think the 1st was dog [****] alley, 2nd was dustmans retreat that sort of thing
