Oh how one loves the logic, similar to that commonly reproduced within all of our dress code threads, that one can judge the "goodness" of a person by their spelling, grammar, syntax, or even their level of apparent education.
One thinks that, it is the behaviour of the person, and not one's (presumed and assumed) errors in the application of the english language, in either written or spoken form, nor the cut of their cloth, which maketh the person.

I agree with your second point though.
I acquired a family with wife #2. I was most impressed with the elder step-son's ability to modify his language and enunciation to fit in with the particular company he was in - anything from travellers to Chief Execs of FTSE 100 companies!
His younger brother, however, correctly argued that the sole purpose of language was to effect communication so, as long as that was achieved, it didn't matter how it was done.
I think the elder has a better approach, as the same one - getting the level of communication correct for the recipient(s) - applies to so much of the rest of human interaction.

Couple of (older than me) guys I was out with today didn't know what a stymie was!
Nothing wrong with 'back 9' or 'sand trap' imo. Bit iffy about Mulligans though - as much as the'd come in handy occasionally!
For a game that can't even trace its roots or name (apart from all the other 4-letter words being taken!) it seems a bit snobbish to criticise differing terminology.

Most do and I cant see that it's offensive. I suppose the term to us is 'Out' and 'In'
