Can anybody recommend me a good coach for the short game, I'd like to have a few lessons in this area before the start of the season. Preferably somewhere in the central belt of Scotland.
Needs to be a proper outdoor practice area, bunkers and grass etc
A google search has thrown up Colin brooks and David Orr. Anybody tried them or have any other people they could recommend?

I can vouch for Colin Brooks. There's an outdoor practise area at Braid Hills, where he's attached.

My short game was horrific. Properly garbage. If I missed a green, it was just about a certain double bogey, because I couldn't do anything but chunk the ball. I've been for two short game lessons with him and the difference is ridiculous. Almost look forward to chipping now.

I use him for lessons on all parts of my game. He's got a good manner about him, the instruction isn't too technical, and the results, in my case at least, have been really good.

Would help if you narrowed down your geographical location.

George Boswell at Mearns Golf Academy gets a good reputation or if your budget allows two time European Tour Winner Alistair Forsyth teaches there too. Stuart Kerr at Strathevan is also very highly respected.

I said the central belt of Scotland, I'm prepared to travel anywhere in that area for someone good.any idea how much the guys at mearns charge?

Thanks for the recommendations so far folks, I'll check them all out. Glenbervie is near me, never heard of that guy before though. Any idea what he charges?

Assistant pro at club but really going somewhere in my opinion. Focusing more and more on coaching and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose in to a pro gig or more specialised coaching in not too distant future.

From memory about £25 a 30 min lesson but can check for you if interested.

Other big benefit is outdoor practice space at club is one of best in central Scotland.

Yeah, Iv been on your practice area a few times, it's very good. It will be really wet down there this time of year though. Couple,of my good pals play there now. I'll have a chat to them about it. Thanks.

She's a good friend of mine, very good young coach. She's Ailsa Murphy now. ;)

Gullane is a wee bit far, so I would recommend David Patrick or David Burns at Kingsfield near Linlithgow.
Have you used either of these guys before? David Patrick is quite pricey at £70 an hour.

About 10 years ago i had 4 lessons with Colin Brooks. I went from a 12 handicap down to 8 in the space of a few months after those lessons. An excellent coach.

I can personally vouch for David Patricks ability with the short game as i played him moons ago, he hit a short pitch that i still cannot believe! It was like frikkin magic the way he made a tiny DOWNHILL pitch shot check, if he can teach you that it is worth every penny!

McCloskey (sp) at Bothwell Castle is another with a good reputation. Gallagher and Warren use (used) him for coaching.

Emails sent to all the above,

What are the short game facilities like at bothwell jacko? I played there once years ago on a works golf outing, got lost trying to find the gate and ended up driving down that wee single track green keepers lane that runs right through the middle of the course😂😂
cant remember the practice area though.

I have no idea, never used him or even played Bothwell, just know he's a respected coach in the business.
