Just wondered if any of my fellow scots have opinions on the proposed amalgamation of the SGU and the SLGA??

Open to comment from anyone else too of course!

Basically the proposal is for the gents (SGU) and ladies (SLGA) to amalgamate into 1 overall association to cover the adult game in Scotland.

The proposals make sense to me, especially from a financial persepctive but just wondered if anyone else had an opinion?

Seems to be a good idea and it may help improve certain stuffy attitudes that have traditionally enveloped gents golf in particular in Scotland.

What i'd be more keen to see though it the merger of the Scottish PGA and the SGU to cerate one body that looks after both the profesional and amateur game. This would help encourage more talented golfers during the transition between top amateur to professional etc. Douglas Lowe (golf writer in the Herald) has been blasting on about this for years!

Makes sense i suppose, but would really not make one difference to my game !!

Not Scottish but the EGU and the Women and thinking about the same thing in England...not wanting to be synical but I think it has alot to do with government funding and a box ticking exercise with equality and all that...

Surley the R&A are the one body for golf...?! (stands well back...)

do they get any government funding? the equality thing is definitely there.

a lot of the women at my place are keen for it to happen, they all think their fees will come down to match the men's - as if that would happen!

The stear from the SGU is that the fees will be a flat rate for the adult golfer for 2012/2013 and from what I understand it will be a slightly more expensive for guys and a little cheaper for ladies....

Annual Subs are at the moment as follows :-

Women £14 per player
Gents £9.

Do clubs feel a value for money return for this?

I'll leave you to work out the answer...

I believe the new rate is £12 per member.

I'm all for the one organisation though I do wonder what the clubs get for their money.

The way I see it, is that is mainly used to fund the elite players development / national competition expenses.
