Moved into a new flat a month ago and I've just come home to a letter from the letting company saying there has been complaints about noise from my property, mainly music that has gone on to the early hours of the morning!

To start i've never played any music loud, and certainly not till the early hours of the morning.

Yes I have a surround sound system for my tv but I keep the bass down on it and the volume down to a level where you can't even hear it if you go into another room in my own flat.

Even if I had had the music slightly loud one night surely it's excusable if it's just a one off and not causing a serious disturbance.

I have a good idea who's complained as my living room only backs onto one other flat and I'm on the ground floor.

Seriously wound me up as they could have least come and have asked me to turn it down if I had it kid rather that going straight to the letting company.

Good job the letting agency is closed at this time of night or they would be getting a earfull down the phone, hopefully I will have calmed down a bit by tomorrow when I ring them.

Rant over.

Now where did I put that Slayer album! ;)

i can understand both sides. can your hear when your neighbours flush the toilet. if you can then they can hear you. my last neighbour was a noisy git. i asked them politely if they heard me as i can hear them. they didnt take the hint. so i put my hifi on full during the day and left the flat for 5 hours came back they were packing there stuff into a van, see ya

The only noise I hear is from the flat upstairs when they walk around as they seem quite heavy footed and I sometimes hear people going in and out of the main door of the flat as I'm right next to it but neither of them are enough of a disturbance to make a comaint about it.

End of the day if people want absolute silence then why move into a block of rented flats.

Seriously think they have the wrong person as I work 12 hours shifts for 4 days then the 4 days I'm off im mainly out playing golf.

Start walking about bollock with the curtains open.

That'll either get you arrested or cause them to move out toot sweet!

Problem is that they wouldn't see, as they are next door to me.

Could maybe have a lady over and have sexy time and make excessive noise and see if I get a letter about that!

Some people just like to moan.. why do you think the flat was empty in the first place?

Are they grumpy late 50's types?

I'm 99% sure which flat it is that has complained but I'm not sure who lives there but I have a good idea.

If it is them maybe I can complain about him letting the main door slam when he goes out to the paper shop on a morning when I'm in bed trying to sleep after a nightshift.

The fun and games are about to start I think.

On a more serious note, where would I stand on them proving it was actually my causing a noise disturbance in a block of flats?

Let it go... it's not worth it. If you have to acknowledge the letter do so and note that you'll make a point of observing noise levels. That's it.

Can't see why I should let it go, I ain't made a disturbance so don't see why I should get a warning that if I get one more complaint I get kicked out.

Just heard the end of a conversation of 2 other residents outside my flat talking about noise last night and they are going to ring and complain on Monday.

Looks as though it could be another flat and I've got the blame for it.

My point being don't let it stress you out.

If that's the case... report it, you have witnesses to the 'new noise'

Dont get angry if you seem angry when you call them they with just think you are lying, ask the letting company for details tell them you do not think it is your flat, ask them when the disturbances happend etc see if you can make any sense of it.

Is there a chance you could be louder than you realise does your flat have wooden floors ?

Rang them but it's shut so left a message explaining that I think there may have been a mistake as I work 12 hour shifts and nights and if they could give me dates for when the supposed noise was coming from my flat to see if I was actually in or working.

The flat does have wooden floors but I'm the ground floor flat and it's the flat next to me I think that has complained.
