Scotty Parker

is this the same guy who is currently suspended after getting himself needlessly sent off in the last minutes of a match his team had already flushed down the toilet. good choice! ;)

im only jokin spuds fans, good choice. love wee scotty. we should have signed him.bargin player.

There is really only a couple of options.
Gerrard
Hart
And Parker.
Gerrard imo should have been an automatic choice imo.
Imo having a keeper is not idea as captain, however at least hes guaranteed a place.
Pearce obviously thinks if he was manager,Parker would be a cert to start, otherwise theres
no point.
One things for sure,if Parker plays he will give 100% albeit hes not world class.
Another things for certain,if we dont sort the team out soon, under a new
manager it will be another disapointing summer.

Gerrard's an injury worry though, surely?? Also, hasn't he said that after the Euro Championships he's going to consider his international future. Plus, he's the wrong side of 30. All together he's no long term Captain.

Parker or Hart it is then.

In my opinion, a goalkeeper can't be the team Captain so Parker gets it.

Actually think this is quite disappointing as, IMO, Parker wouldn't make it into the England midfield ahead of Gerrard, Wilshire, Rodwell, Barry, Young and Milner. Plus he's 31 and therefore hasn't got a long England career ahead of him. Would like to see a younger player - who is going to be around for the next few tournaments - made captain.

Although i hate to say it , Gerrard has had a decade to shine in an England shirt on the World stage, and he hasnt done it . What on earth makes you think he is hungry for it now. He is on the downward side of his career and he has been a very good player. And he probably could do a few more good games for England. He has been part of a generation of underachievers. It's time to give a new generation of want-to achievers the chance to do it. Giving Gerrard the captaincy for a friendly approaching a championship would possibly/probably suggest that the players of the last decade are who teh team should be formed around.
And much though this seems odd, i think Rooney fits in that category as well, so i am hoping that the young guys have brilliant games and force Rooney, Lampard, Ferdinand, Terry, et al to up their games if they want to prolong their ENgland careers that to date have brought us nothing but them loads of money

The only thing I would say in gerrard's defence is that he has been shunted around the England team and has not played in his preferred position of the attacking midfielder. Whereas Lampard was always prefered in this position as Lampard could not play the defenisve midfielder, down the left, down the right, off the front man - Gerrard has played all these roles, with mixed success. I think if Gerrard had played as the offensive midfielder in a 4-4-2 we would have seen the LFC Gerrad a lot more. That said a lot the "golden generation" have not transferred their club form to the international stage. Just think gerrard has only played 8-10 games in his most prefered club position whereas all the others have played in the same position for club and country.

Agree with all of that, except the Rooney bit. I've said it before, the England team, and United, are all the weaker without Rooney. He links play up so well, lays on plenty of chances for others, and scores a few himself. Add to that, defenders are sh.. scared of what he can do.

But, it's not all about one player and watching tonights game I saw lots of positives for the future, such as players like, Smalling, Jones, Johnson, Sturridge, Campbell and also think Tom Cleverly has a bright international future.

Wow, itv programming is great. They show the whole of the match live, finishing at 22:10 then put half an hour of news and then schedule the highlights of the footie straight after

rooney is still a young man. he will be around for along time yet. you cant lump him in with terry, lampard gerrard et all.

Scott Parker is a liability. All very well diving into challenges but it will cost us in the Euros unless he learns not to go in with studs.
