Scotty Cameron's............

I've been trying out putters over the last month after deciding I fancied something new and up to now the clear leader is the Rife Aruba.

I don't think I've ever tried an Anser style putter that feels as balanced as the Aruba and the feel of the face is also as good as anything else I've ever tried.

Had a few Scottys over the years and in my opinion you have to be a good putter to get the best out of them, similar to having to be a good ball striker to get the best out of most Titleist irons.

They look good in the bag but I'd say from experience that you get more out of a poor strike with a PIng Anser. A Similar Style Scotty will punish a poor Strike.

I bought my Scotty with some windfall money a couple of years back. I'll be honest and say it was an emotional rather than a rational choice.

I didn't think it would help me be a better putter but I wanted to have one because sometimes it is just nice to own a really lovely bit of kit. I can't afford a Rolex and I'd never use a Mont Blanc but in golf terms, to me, a Scotty is in the same bracket and as a life long golf nut why not treat myself? Now I have it I really enjoy puttng with it. It looks and feels great. Sometimes I even have an extra putt with it just because I can!

Also it was only half the price of the latest adustable driver and I'll use the Scotty at least twice as often every round.

I love my fastback and had it now for 3 years. Had a look at changing earlier this year but the only thing I wanted to change it for was a new fastback  Didn't see the point on shelling out 200 odd squids on a different grip. Try it first you might not like them.........

the new one has a deeper milled face, which is why i got mine

I've got an expensive scotty putter and I don't like it or use it. It has been in a tour bag in my study for more than a year.

I think they are overrated but accept I'm in a minority and the example put forward by Ethan relating to the number of pros using them speaks volumes.

They are just not my cup of tea.

Thx for the comments guys, I know i'd like to try them first but where is the question !? I doubt our ProShop will order some examples in just for me...........although thats where my £180 Credit is lodged, so maybe they will.

I do like my yes Marilyn, its simple but effective, and in all honesty, I put quite well anyway.

Maybe instead of a new shiny special thing, I should be having a putter lesson or course of lessons, - perhaps far more likely to help me back down to Single figures ?!

But - if a Scotty helps me hole just 1 more a round...............Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm lol

Iused Ping putters for years , since the 80's, jacked mine for a Scotty Squareback 3 years ago and love it to bits. I still play Ping irons and woods, but the Scotty putter feels and behaves much better for me on the greens. The posters above that say "a Scotty won't make you a better putter" are probably right, putting is a skill and needs to be practiced, but it is also a game of confidence and my Scotty gives me a lot of confidence.

With regards to your pro not getting one in for you to try, that depends on how easy it is for him to get Titleist, but you may be surprised - if he's a member of the Foremost group or one of the other golf pro purchasing groups, he's very likely to be able to get demo clubs, best ask him. Failing that, go elsewhere to try them - before I bought mine, I was on holiday in Japan and spent my spare time traipsing around many of the big golf stores trying the Scotty I had my eye on against others and even tried Pings and Odyssey for comparison. In fact I wasn't originally after the Squareback, I only started looking at it in more seriously after I randomly tried it in one of the stores. I then tried it quite a few times before coming back to my pro in the UK and asking him to order it for me...

It is perfectly possible for a putter to be both an excellent putter but also unsuitable for you. There are a range of Scotty Cameron putters with different weighting, balance, appearance and feel. Some has little offset and a lot of toe weighting for a 'gated' stroke. Others have more offset and are face balanced and suit a straight back, straight through putter. I would be very surprised if there was not one which was suitable. Just perhaps not the one you bought.

I tried the Mizuno Mp-T 102 yesterday and it felt absolutely brilliant. If/When my XG Rossie starts misbehaving (won't be me!) that is what the hard earned will be going on. Lovely soft feel off the face for a milled putter probably down to the forged factor.

Never been a fan of Camerons and can't see the attraction. Many pro footballers use Nike boots but they are still sh!t :D...

Scotty Hollywood here, probably the best feel I've had from one and I've mostly had scottys since a lad, however, its sitting doing nothing now as I find a mallet so much better with my wonky yippy stroke, must take Montys tip and hit it a foot harder, nothing to lose

I am sure you are right.

That said, I bought an Anser style one, I forget the name now, because I was pretty good with Ping putters when I was playing regularly. It didn't work out but this is down to me of course.

In fact and as a direct result of my post on this yesterday, I am playing at a corporate day tomorrow at Goodwood Downs and have stuck the Scotty putter in the car to take it along as I can't be any worse than I was with my 2 ball last week.

As an aside, I am eating at Goodwood House tonight with Lord March hosting us in the Egyptian Dining Room! Can't wait. Heard great things.
