A mate of mine bought a Scotty Newport 2.5 for a bargin off golfbidder a few weeks back. I was out for a medal round with him at the weekend and his putting has come on 10 times better then what it was and he said it was all down to getting the Scotty. I wanted to have a few putts with it just to see what he was on about but couldn't cos he is a lefty. Is it all in his head(and it's after working) or are Scotty's that good. It's just interesting to know what people think

Cheers

They're nice putters for sure, but I know people that can't get on with them.

I have a Pro Platinum which I don't use as I'm waiting to get the funds to send it back to Scotty for a refurb, but I wouldn't say it's much better than my Nike Method.

what was he using before?
It could just be he is getting a more consistant strike/roll with the Scotty.

I have one and love it, it has such a great feel to the strike

If you can putt, you can pretty much use anything.

Assuming you match face balanced, versus non face balanced to your stroke, I can't see it making much difference.

However, an awful lot of putting is in your head, so if you think it makes you a better putter, it probably will.

He was using an odyssey mallet head style, not sure of the exact name of it but he was a very good putter with it and I questioned why he got the Scotty and the reply I got was that he wanted a change. Seem's to have worked for the better as he was nailing everything inside 10-12 ft. I think I might have a look on golfbidder now for a new putter :D

Never thought I would see the words 'bargain' and 'Golfbidder' in the same sentence....

ps love my Scotty, its all in the head though :p

I have a crush on my mates Scotty, its a newport 2.5 with an insert. I think its the 2007 model and I have been looking for one on the bay.

I think they are really well made and something a little bit special, rather like Vokeys.

Am in love with a betty at the moment (for sale on golf bidder) and seem to spend far too long looking at pictures of it, Scotty is coming a close second though.

They're good putters, but not a magic wand.

Ive had 3 of them in the past 10 years and give them all a good run. They're certainly no better than Ping or Odyssey.

I have an Odyssey two ball at the moment and have never got on with it especially well. I have read loads on putting and how psychological it is, and am also about to start practising a lot more at home and on the practise greens. As such I have decided to opt for a new putter to also coincide with this as a fresh start and to make a difference in confidence and influence that all important 'belief' required for putting. I am going to get a Scotty I think......if it doesn't work then I will take the positives and switch back to my 'reliable' Odyssey and kid my brain that it is in fact reliable, and then practise loads with that one until I get my averages down. It really is so much in the mind.......

I've personally never got what all the fuss is about with Scottys. They are great looking putters, but I've always found that they don't feel very nice at all.

Nothing gets that good of a reputation though without being a quality piece of kit so there must be something to them.

I love my Scotty (Squareback), putt so much better than I did with the Ping's I had before. But then each Ping was better than the one before that.....

I've just been explaining to my 10 year old son how putting is about confidence, feel and the head, and that all the main putter brands are just as good as each other. It all boils down to how the putter feels for you. He wanted to swap a Ping for an Odyssey, before declaring a Scottsdale that he tried at the weekend "way better than the Odyssey". He's now saving for the Scottsdale......

For me, the Scotty's are "way better than Ping's" :-)
