Scotland Womens Golf Team

Just reading about this, seems pretty rife in amateur golf across the board with an old fashioned selection panel rather than a meritocratic approach.

Are all the players picked funded by the SGU/full time golfers?

Seems there's a new category of "professional amateur" these days........

This is the new amalgamated 'Scottish Golf'
Selectors are a 'trendy' two men and one woman.

I believe most of the team are grant aided, if you read FD's attachment you may get a better idea of how 'well' they are doing with women's golf in general.

As I said, "shamateur".

Golf politics are awful, I recently got overlooked for a free "wildcard" entry into an event based on a selection process that would be considered discriminatory, ageist and racist in every normal profession.

And guess what, the selection comittee couldn't break 90 off the back tees if they all played a scramble.

Yep I read that, seems like it's almost a case of justifying the investment in those who are on the way to (or trying to) turn pro rather than rewarding the best amateur players as proven through the national champs and OOM etc.

The same with the Walker Cup team, anecdotally from what I've heard previously I should add.

Good analysis, the selectors looking to justify their positions and prove themselves right, instead of picking necessarily the best players.
