Scotland are pish...............

I think you're being a bit unfair on Scotland to be honest. I watched most of the game and thought they kept the onslaught as low as they could.
Spain are a great footballing side and play the game how it should be - on the deck and possession passing.
As the great Brian Clough once said, "There's the ball, go out and fecking keep it." "And when you lose it, get it back again".

I think it's fair to say that Scotland probably lost to the eventual winners.

Aye but it wasn't all about tonight.

We failed to beat a very poor Lithuania side in the opening game, we played a 4-6-0 formation in Prague (which I travelled to all the way by bus to suffer) and couldn't hold on to beat the Czechs.

Damage done long before tonight, if the manager had started the campaign with the same formation as he finished it with we would be in the play offs.

Terrible management decisions have cost us dear in games where we should have been looking to win he sent the team out not to loose.

I personally think that Levein has the strongest Scottish squad of any manager in the last 10 years or so and he has failed to use it to its potential. Spain apart the rest of the group were there for the taking.

Very disappointed in most of the performances and cant see it changing under Levein although it looks like he going to be in place for the World Cup campaign so there goes our hopes of qualifying for that:(

I agree wholeheartedly.

There does seem to be some very talented players coming through though and so the picture may not be as bleak as you make it sound. Hopefully the manager will learn from his mistakes (or you'll get a new one) the kids will be given their head and you make it to the world cup as they aren't the same without the team and fans

Cheers Homer.

You are right - some of the players he has blooded towards the end of the campaign look like they could possibly take the step up - Adam, Bannan, Naismith and Forrest being the bast examples.

Yeah, fair point Champ.

Shame, I would of liked Scotland to go through

I think we did ok,considering the opposition. We were always second best, but we created a fair few chance's,and maybe if we'd had Millar playing,we may have scored earlier in the game.
As stated though, qualification wasn't about last nights result,we screwed up months ago.

Hit the nail on the head here smange.

We've had some rubbish squads in the past few years which, to a degree, meant Smith and McLeish could hide behind really negative football.

We now have a good squad/team and really haven't progressed any. Look at the teams in this group, other than Spain this has been the best oppportunity recently to get out of a pretty good draw. World Cup group looks a whole lot tougher......

I used to love watching Scotland in the late 70's and early 80's as their team was full of decent players and they were excellent to watch.

Not now though. It has all gone horribly wrong. I doubt that the first 11 could even beat Brighton these days. They have no players of international class and are basically a poor side with no chance of qualification for any major tournament.

Not sure whose fault it all is really. I don't think the dominance of the Old Firm helps. Nor does the national diet and weather I would argue!

Great shame. I always want the UK teams to succeed. Unfortunately, they are all (including England) very poor in comparison to the major teams like Spain, Germany, Brazil etc.
