Sad git sharing some stuff off SKY to discuss....

Indeed, if you SOMEHOW manage to get more than 90 degrees of wrist cock then you have to uncock some of that else you'll just pass straight over the top of the ball in the downswing (unless you flip). With a shorter swing you can control your tempo and actually hit the ball harder, and you can increase your lag rather than dump it.

Thanks, yes that is pretty much how it was described, well pointed out during a look at the setup details. That change also had the effect of widening the swing, thereby reducing the angle of attack causing delofting etc. It also encourages me to keep my left arm straighter as I have a tendancy for my left arm to collapse, I suspect I will always have this instinctive fault on occasions.

Great thread by the way.

The putting stats JO posted are so true, when i met howeller last week, he said one of the biggest problems with AM golfers was their expectations! under 6ft, he expects to hole pretty much everything, but from 12ft I think he said 33% would be good! and thats a pro who practices for X hours a day etc..

Aye.... my thought process has changed a lot by understanding SOME of the stats from the PGA tour. Proximity to the hole from 150yds is an interesting one, especially considering the huge size of greens they normally play to. Jim Furyk is currently leading the overall 'proximity' stats for the year... and he's 10 yards from the pin  http://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.331.html Think about it... the BEST on the PGA tour is 10yds from the flag on average...... most of my greens aren't even 10yrds wide!!! changes your expectations a bit

And I used to feel gutted when I missed a 12ft putt as if there was something wrong with my stroke/putter. Now that I know I'm not going to feel gutted I actually feel like I make more putts

What is the average speed of their greens? Also what about from 200yards in? Also sand saves? Just looking at one stat is interesting but you need to put a few more down.
Someone was telling me that there is a huge amount of roll out for drives and the carry distances were not as impressive as we think. But I have no idea about this its just club house chat..

All those stats are available... I just choose the ones I like. I'm not interested in beating myself up because I can't match their GIR stats for example, or their driving distances.

I don't think their driving distances are that relevant, they play on courses that are perfection. They also have people watching where their ball goes, if you knew that you were going to find it 98% of the time you would really be uninhibited and go after it. I would be interested to see how their swing speed steps down on their irons. I am of the opinion that the driver is used mostly at full power and irons are played mainly at 80% capacity... I may be wrong though.

Longer putt stats very interesting - I see so many players getting worked up that they don't make 12 footers all the time, when realistically the pros won't either!

What's the stats for putts within 5 foot though - I bet you start to see the difference there!

The stat I would like to see is how close the pros get their approach putts.

I think us hackers see the pros 3 putt so rarely that we assume that we can avoid them too. The difference is probably that their approach putts are within 3 feet and ours are within 7 or 8 feet, if we're lucky.

...and with 3 putts, think Luke Donalds stat was he went over a thousand tournament holes without one 3 putt:eek:

You really need to work on your putting if you are leaving yourself 8 feet for your second putt...

This is all very interesting but I want more extreme makeover photos!!!! That was unreal.

On a serious note the most interesting thing is the stats. Realigning my expectations for sure

interesting video here about where tiger is (was) aiming when hitting draws/fades!
