I used to work for a firm in Scotland and was invited to an Old Firm Game. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life firstly for being English and being at the game and secondly the sectarian chanting and IRAreferences. Its not football its war and frankly with Rangers beeing i the situation they are currently its probably the best thing that could have happened. The sad thing is as others have mentioned this wont change over night as its ingrained in to the generations. Its Football FFS !

Being in the RAF I work with people form all over the UK and lived in Scotland for 5 years so witnessed what you are talking about in the flesh many times. I have watched how when an old firm derby is coming up how 2 people that happily work together can soon start to get nasty towards each other, I find it pathetic to be honest. With being a Liverpool fan there is a bit of banter when they are playing one of the other big clubs at work and if you loose you hear about for the next week from that teams fans. But at no point do you get the nastiness that I have seen between old firm fans that work together week in week out.

I know it is about more than football when it comes to the old firm, but some people (not all of them) need to get a grip and grow up in my opinion. The world would be a lot better place if people could just learn to accept each other and get on with life.

Then again, world peace????? I would be out of a job, so carry on............

To be honest Craw me thinks you are a tad too sensitive.

A bit of humour and poking of fun from the green side and a bit of deflection of the achievement from the blue side is all that I saw last night and nothing sinister.

Which part has made you so concerned you fell the need to try and stoke things up with a brand new thread?

On that particular thread I can't see anything that would make you so sad.

This is a nothing story thread started by someone looking for a bit of mischief.

 Spot on here Dodger.

Last night was a bit of fun and I don't think there was any harm on what had been posted, however I did notice that Big Val was missing last night and yet he was all over this thread like a rash:whoo:

Chin up Big man you still got the away game to go:whistle:

Admittedly I have led a pretty sheltered existence when it comes to these things but I have great problems understanding the bitterness and aggression that follows football as a whole. I was brought up watching rugby and, whilst I am not trying to start a 'my sport is better than yours argument', I find it a totally different experience. no segregation of crowds, no aggression, good banter, no ban on alcohol, that is what I am used to. I would and have happily taken my little nephew to watch the Tigers (he gets a free season ticket when my brother buys his, another lesson to be learned there) but I would not dream of taking him to the Crisp Bowl to watch Leicester City. Equally, my wife would never go to another football match having been to one but would happily go to watch rugby on her own.

As I said, much of these views come from a pretty sheltered existence and it maybe that the stories in the press etc taint my opinion of football crowds as a whole but the impression that I get means that I am not likely to head off to a football match in the future.

I'm Scottish and I'm not embarassed by these threads at all.
If it's football, I just dont read it. Simple
Yeeeeeeeeeears ago I played with 2 guys in a club comp. When they discovered one was a Arsenal City supporter and the other followed Tottenham United, they didn't speak to each other for the rest of the round
Now, that's what I call silly.

And now we all know why you stay away from football threads.:D

You list a number of reasons why Ive seen more Rugby in the flesh this year than football.

Missing with good reason, I don't go hiding big fella you know me way better than that.

My cousin from a family of Irish Celtic Supporters married a young man from a family of Scots Rangers fans, great wedding and impeccable behaviour on both sides, they now live happily in Edinburgh, sadly this is not the sort of peaceful co-habitation that come across generally.

In England I think it was simply sorted, everyone hates ManU
