Eyup, it's about time I got my fat lazy a$$ into training for this years Great North Run (I'll be cadging for sponsorship later in the year ;)).
I'm after a small, preferably inexpensive, device to track my miles. I don't fancy clagging a phone to my arm or in pocket so a standalone device would be preferable. Some of those watches look quite pricey but kinda cool, what are my options as most Google searches mainly show up those pedometer things.

i use my apple watch as there are a few apps with it that work, but depending on what you want to spend depends what you can get, probably one of the garmin ones would do a job, a friend of mine uses the specific running watch, my wife uses a fitbit for step and fitness tracking, but not sure if it would be of use when running.

Does look smart but a tad pricey and besides, I already have a golf gps and laser :D

I've got this watch, there is a new a due out soon i believe, so expect the prices will drop, if you're looking for an 'all rounder' it is excellent. plus the support, online apps and web pages are really good for tracking your progress.

I'm the same, i also have a gps that i use on the course, but sometimes use my watch just to double check yardages.

Something from the Garmin Forerunner range would be your best option. The Tom Tom runner watches are also meant to be pretty good and reasonably cheap.

Good shout mate, ordered a Tomtom Spark (runner 2) Music from their website, found a code for £8 of as well so only cost £60 delivered.
Looks to have everything I need and the music player is a bonus for only a few qyid more than the basic model.

Can anyone recommend some decent blue tooth headphones which are suitable for running, maybe up to about £40?

Mpow Swift on Amazon. Avoid any with the controls positioned on the wire. They flap about when running and the weight pulls them out of your ear. The controls on the swift are in the ear piece. Cheap as well.

Garmin VivoActive HR? it does golf too :)

I have the version below, i.e. without the HR monitor. As well as all the active sporty stuff, it will also double up as a golf GPS. No it doesn't do distance to hazards but it is good enough for distances to green.

Operationally, I like the fact that it will go up to 3 weeks between charges if the GPS isn't used too often.
