Rules Question

Was playing this morning and had an idea that on every green i would pick my ball up clean it and then use the alignment marks to set the right path for my ball on the green. Is this legal? I marked the ball with a pin before lifting it.

Yep, fine. You will often read tips in the mags to put a line on the equator of your ball and use that to point down the starting line of your putt.

It helped so much as i have a little line on my putter and this lined up with the line on the ball

Check out the TV golf. Most pros put a line on their golf balls, and you can but a plastic ball shaped device with a hole in it to do it properly.

no problem there mate,i have a mate that hardly ever cleans his ball for short putts,his favourite sayings when putting are"i"ll just tap this in[before missing]and when hes short he says"i couldnt bring myself to hit it".
