Yet another interesting rules decision thrown up by this week's PGA Tour. For those who haven't been watching, Villegas was DQd after a TV viewer apparently called a penalty on him! The infringement seems pretty black and white, " ...Villegas flick away some loose pieces of grass as his ball was rolling down a slope back toward his divot on the 15th hole at Kapalua." (23-1).
There were a couple of occasions last year where HD slow-mo TV coverage could be deemed responsible for penalties being imposed that were otherwise unnoticed, or un-called, but this seems a step too far surely?
Yes, it is the honesty and integrity of the game that we all love that means CV should have called the penalty on himself, but just how far should we go in accepting these external 'judges'?
