Core golf have got some very good deals on leather grips at the moment (https://coregolf.co.uk/gripmaster-g...er/core-golf-irons-and-woods-golf-club-grips/ ). I don't know whether Core can do it, but some fitters use a compressor to blow the grips on now avoiding the use of any chemical solution. Not sure how the tape layer underneath would affect you, but I had one of the leather grips on my putter for a while and do not recall anything coming through the leather.
