Royal Ashdown Forest

I have played it quite a few times. It is a very nice course. Not all that long but relatively tight and if you are offline, invariably you are in the heather which will be coming in to bloom soon as well so might be a few purple patches already.

At a couple of points on the course you get a great view of the county, not least the tough 11th. This par 3 is really long off the back tee and quite tricky. I think it is about 250 yards from memory. Downhill though.

I also recall that the greens can be quick and if they are, the course becomes significantly harder as many of the greens have considerable slopes. I remember being at the back of one of the first few greens in the height of summer, putting straight downhill and I barely set it rolling and went off the front of the green.

The elevation it sits at also means it can get quite breezy in some of the more exposed parts of the course.

You will have a good day there. A really nice course, good views and a superb old clubhouse.

exciting times!

it can be one of the toughest courses you ever play.
the heather is thick and very demanding ,that is if you can find your ball.
as already said the greens can be slick and if the wind does get up then you will be having fun .
it really is a greatly underated course that would be in my top courses in the country.
great views along with great golfing holes.
you will know you have played well if you break par .

Really nice course Sam. I didn't find it particularly tight but then I hit the ball pretty straight
It's quite hilly in places so you will know you've played 36. Agree about the greens, they do have slopes on them.

No need to carry your sand wedge round, not a single bunker :D

I've got 36 holes @ the players the day before too! going to die

So much will depend on how much rain there is between now and the time you play!

I would characterise it as one of those course that's reasonably wide off the tee with a few tight shots into greens (the shortest par three being an obvious example). However, if you try and take any liberties it will bite hard.

A very fair course (unless it's bone dry); well struck shots are generally rewarded.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course, greens were amongst the slowest I have Ever played though.

Great course would recommend it to anyone

A shame about the greens. They have never been slow on any of my visits there so I think you've been unlucky.
