Just seen that Sir Roger Bannister has passed away. Inspiration to anyone that ever competed in athletics especially to a youngster doing middle distance running at school and for a club. RIP Sir Roger

RIP, remembered solely for that feat although he did achieve a lot more in life.
Mile world record was an iconic thing to have, more valued than the 1500m record maybe for a spell, nowadays maybe not.
Remember well when Cram Coe and Ovett were taking the record down in turn at events like the Golden Mile in Oslo, heady days. Current record is nearly 19yo now.
