Just heard this sad news. He died unexpectedly this weekend aged 70.

Propbably not particularly high profile in the wider world but what an amazing guitar player. Spent hours and hours trying to get some of his licks under my belt. Never even got close.

A guitarist's guitarist and truly a blimmin virtuoso genius.

As a guitar noodler for many years (before I finally accepted I was going nowhere and stopped) I was aware of him and his virtuoso reputation from guitaring circles, even owned an album once, however despite trying hard to appreciate his work and give him a good listen I just couldn't get him at all to be honest. Too jazzy for me. Wish I did enjoy the genre more, feel I'm missing out! Influenced a lot of good players apparently. RIP of course.

Sad news for guitar players. Seemed well respected and even a rocker like Eddie Van Halen apparently liked him. Hardly mainstream and the talent that people like Allan had is often only appreciated by failed musicians like myself. Perhaps he needed to go on Britain's Got Talent :D
