so, how much is acceptable amount to pay for an engagement ring???
i know it depends on what you earn, but for an 'average' wage taker, what would be a rough ball-park figure?

I always thought it was one month's wages, but kept getting told its 3 months. I ended up spending somewhere in between and it was still too much! Lol

Like Aztec says one months wage, which is a hell of a lot, considering how much the weddings going to cost you I would give her a simple ring.

Blimey - didn't realise there was a tradition. I guess as much as you can afford as a nice rock is always a nice rock years down the line - I still really love my engagement ring

I spent three month wages, I am old school but it took a while to recover!!

My wife treats me like a king and I would do it again, however it is not something I could do in the current climate.

It is a symbol of your love, not actualy the love so it does not matter if you spend a pound or a million pounds.

If you and your beloved care for each other,it shouldn't really matter what the ring costs. If your intentions are sincere any ring will be acceptable.
Best of luck.

Women are mad creatures, some will accept any ring as it is a token of your eternal love and friendship, something that can not be broken. Other women just want a big diamond on their finger to show off regardless of cost to the fella, even of it puts him in hardship for months and months.
Guess which I have.....

Find the right ring then pay what it costs is how I worked. Found the perfect ring (had an inset diamond as opposed to a claw fitting as my wife works on constructions sites alot) save up, bought it. It could have cost twice as much or half as much but I thought it was the perfect ring for what I hoped would be my wife. She loves it, said yes and am in tenth year of marriage so cannot have been a bad choice.

I am a traditionalist so bought the ring on my own and in advance of the proposal. I know common sense suggests that you should choose the ring together but that is just not me.

Spend what you can afford. Three months wages is a lot of money these days so i done a months. I brought the diamond seperate and then we chose the mount together. Resulted in a ring worth over 5k when I spent around 3.2k on the diamond and setting.

Love it :) Exactly the same as I have by the sounds of it Brendy!

I bought the ring in advance of proposing and I still wince when I think how much it cost! Although, it was the nicest one I'd seen which is why I carried on and bought it.

If it's platinum you will get stung with the wedding ring aswell though which "must" be platinum also..... :)

if you want a i know where there a two going free. if you can scuba dive they are yours, one was 1000 the other 1500, i can laugh about now. aye i chucked them in the clyde

I spent a fair but as well not quite 3months but more than a month. I picked it myself and that what impressed HID more though.. She found out price when we had to sort out insurance and wasn't impressed I spent that amount bcoz it was a time u was strugglin for money and preferred me to spend less...

I'm quit traditional I asked her dad first etc... To be fair it won't matter if u spend 10 or 10000 it will be the gesture they love... Although get ready for wedding fairs and all other stuff to go with it haha... I got me wedding in August and can't wait

I spent a few hundred. I paid for mounting the rock in a ring, and her grandad provided the rock. It is quite impressive. I could not have afforded any thing quite like it.

wow, i was thinking 1 or 2 replies, not this many!!thank you all so much........well, I think I will look around for the right one, spent long enough looking for the right woman, so whats a few extra pounds for the woman i love.
