If you're painting it the same colour, don't paint it, just tell jan you've done it, leave the top off the paint tin so the smell can linger a little and tell her it was quick drying.
Of BTW why did you use curtains to paint with, most people use brushes and rollers

I thought Jan has just started fire training? what happened to the working at height regulations?
have you
- had the training,
- rigged a scaffold,
- had the scaffold training,
- fixed an anchorage for your safety harness
- had the training to use power tools so you can fit the anchorage,
- got a suitably trained person as a safety number?
you should be qualified in about 18 months by which time there will be a nes set of regs.
