I'm as pleased as anybody that Darren Clarke won today, but i was very impressed by Fowler. Not only did he play some great links golf, but he conducted himself admirably.Over the last 5 holes he had to hit shots in the most awful weather, and had some horrible bounces etc,but he kept smiling, and kept trying.
I'd love to see him lift the Claret Jug one day, even if he isn't a Brit.
Well done Ricky.

P.S i love the Orange, just wish i was thin enough and young enough to get away with it. :D

I thought Fowler might have nicked it today. His round yesterday showed a lot of maturity and no little skill. Never been his biggest fan but I warmed to him a bit this week. It was an excellent performance. I'm surprised he hasn't won yet and will be surprised if he doesn't pick up at least one major in his career

agreed, exciting young man with flair and charisma, def one to watch, humble beginnings as he was brought up on a driving range and totally self taught- Tin Cup anyone

Well done to the lad. Let's just hope he doesn't go looking for swing changes, it would take a lifetime to reassemble his swing.

I saw Fowler during a practise round, and he was dreadful, hooking in the deep stuff, hacking, completely duffed a chip. Then come the event he played with great poise and maturity, lots of excellent shot-making, and despite being wayward off the tee ground it out. He also gets on with it, none of this messing about for ages. I hope he does win something.

I was impressed by the way he just got on with the game. The heavy rain came and he just hit his shot.

He was close to a black plastic bag covering a junction on some cables and he played it with no complaint.

If he keeps on ignoring the distractions like that he will win a big tournament soon.

I hope he does something too.

Talking of wayward, some of those fairways are massively wide and the lack of bonkers rough must have given heart to those driver-only boys.

What I liked about Rickie Fowler was, he did what he said he would, "Have some fun out there". Accepted the conditions and as others have said, just got on with it, no airs 'n graces.

I too got it wrong, thinking he was a bit of a pillock but have changed my mind now. I thought he might find links golf and the weather a bit too much and wanna go home to Mummy, but in fact he seemed to thrive on it - and played really well, shame his putts weren't better though.

I'm sure winning a Major is only a matter of time.

Golfmmad.

I'll reserve judgment until he has won something, at the moment he has the potential to be 'the best who never was'.

I will admit that my opinion of him as a golfer has gone up but please, lose the 12 year old image.

I dont really understand why Fowler gets the negative opinion. OK US tv rants on about him, but so do Sky about the great local talent.
I like Fowler, he is a no nonsense, get on with it, normal guy. I also dont think tough weather bothers him as he is into Moto X etc so getting beat up by conditions does not bother him.
I was disapointted that Rory announced himself as a fair weather golfer.
I hope Ricky gets a few wins sooner rather than later.

plus 1.........for Rors to say he needed good weather to win is a huge shock.

Bolloxs to backing him again...even 2 days calm is taking the pish in Britain!

Hats off to the 3 Americans, Mickelson, Fowler and Johnson, for getting on with it and not letting the weather affect them.

Can't believe Rory McIlroy said that!

Golfmmad.

I really like Fowler, but maybe thats because he is close to my age, and you oldies dont like his outrageous gear!

He is definitely NOT overhyped! McIlroy is heralded as Tiger's predecessor, yet has won only 3 times in his career and lost so many tournaments from a leading position. I am sure that when Rickie gets one under his belt, theyll roll in.
