Probably a question for the Tartan Army of the forum.....what is Renfrew like for a game?

I see it has been an Open Regional qualifying course so it can't be too shabby surely?

I intend to play it mid May so any thoughts or tips would be welcome.

Ive got a friend who lives up that way, ill give him text or call tommorrow to see what he thinks of the course. Im sure he said it was a cracking course but cant remember.

Just keep you're eye on the weather beforehand. It's right next to the Clyde and when there is a lot of rain it can flood.

Ranfurly Castle in Bridge of Weir (just down the road) is a very nice course if you need an alternative.

Cheers

Cheers for the replies so far....the weather is I know probably the stumbling block,if it pishes down like it can in the west I think West Kilbride may be where we will head......better idea do you think?

Hi Dodger Maybe a post we will not argue about. I have played Renfrew a few times it's a very good course when it's dry but can get very heavy. It is tree lined with a lot of strong holes 6800yards of the back tees and you only get what you hit,the green's are always in good nic. They have an open in August where you get to play the back tees the cost is about £12-£15.

Well i gave my friend a call and he said it was brilliant when he played it but maybe a bit long for the average golfers but im sure youll manage. He also said the greens were top notch also. Just makes me want to play it now :(

Renfrew is the most over rated golf course in the West of Scotland in my opinion.

There are a few very nice holes and some that are rather stupid. As has already been said the greens are usually superb in the height of summer and very quick. The bunkers are very very poor with little or no sand in them and if it starts to rain the course floods in a heartbeat.

Its long and a good challenge but not brilliant. I would try Marr Hall or even Erskine or slightly further away East Renfrewshire as they are better fun golf courses. Renfrew is a tough track especially if you have not played it. I find it very hard to judge distances round it and would advise a GPS.

My vision/opinion of Renfrew is clouded as its a course I've never played well on. Even so I wouldn't pay to play it. There are better courses in the County.

Its ok Dodger if it is dry like the others have said. Longest course in the county and you need to be accurate but ok for a one off game I suppose.

If you fancy a different venue, Gourock will be coming on in May time.

Ig you want to play there I'll shout you on.

Andy

Dodger,

what about Largs golf club? Its a smashing golf course, good lay out, superb greens and wonderful views. If you have not played there I would strongly recommend it.
