Red, red wine.

Love a good Malbec. Asda one selling at a fiver is winning all sorts of awards at the moment so will invest in a couple of bottles to test over the weekend

Agree about Malbec - also have a nice taste for it

Also have a taste for Châteauneuf-du-Pape at the moment but that's a bit pricey so save for a good meal

Malbec, followed by a decent Coal Ila single malt as a bed time nip.

Just had first physio session. Not good. Another 6 weeks...
Bloidy hell mate, you've proper knacked it!

Was going to suggest a mini NE meet at Sharpley if you had the time, I suppose we still could, then draw straws to see who gets you as their caddie 😃

Not a huge red wine drinker as it tends to give me a thick head. However we got some from Waitrose at Christmas to do some entertaining and I thoroughly recommend Fog Head Reserve Pinot Noir Monterey

TBH, I'm pretty missed off with the A&E doc. Apparently they should have done a lot more, inc what should have been done in the last 7 weeks. But hey, at least my putting should be hot by August

The wine I mentioned earlier was, and we still have the empty bottle as we are trying to get some more, is S. Corte Maria Romagna Cagnina 2011

For white it's Blue Nun all the way. For red Mateus in a nice whicker basket. You don't mess with the classics.;)

Aah! Takes me back 45 years!

And if you really want to 'splash out'....Black Tower or Egri Bikaver resp - Or Siglo Saco if you are in a hurry to drink it!

All actually quite reasonable quality wines - depending on price (though i'm a bit dubious about Mateus!

Back to the present day....
Argentinian Malbec is the current 'best value' red imo, though Tesco currently have a South African Malbec 'on special' (£6) that I rather (unexpectedly) like too! Chilean Merlot, and even Cabernet (I've seen the Torres subsidiary Cab at £5 and that's a real bargain!!) is pretty good value. Tough for a Kiwi to say, but Australia make great reds - though the exchange rate is making them poorer value! Wolf Blass is superbly reliable and anything from Coonawarra or Margaret River should be delicious! Expect to pay around £10 to £12.

If you want to spend a little more, then Rhone wines seem to me to still be good value and reliable.

Btw. Majestic do a 'Signature' series, supposedly typical of the areas selected. The Argi Malbec is the pick of the bunch imo, closely followed by the Rhone. Others seem 'typical', but with typical price vs value issues. Haven't tasted the Kiwi Sauv/Blanc nor the Saumur yet, but apparently pretty good. i've actually gone off Kiwi Sauvignon in recent years - it's just become too intensely up-front for me. Argentinian Pinot Gris seems much more rounded -and much of it is made by Kiwis!

Spanish gives me the biggest headache ever.

Italian for me, which I will be drinking to morrow night in Milan.

Valpocella, Barbara di Asti, Nero Davola. As slab said slightly chilled.

once you have been bitten get yourself a nice Samsung wine fridge, dual temp for the Reds and whites.

Flying in on Monday to do the Lakes, are you there long ?

So on Friday I bought a bottle of Rioja, not my cup of tea and to my shame had to water it down with lemonade 😱
In asda today and they finally had that La Modena Melbec stuff, it's quite nice and the perfect lazy Sunday with the golf on TV tipple.

Your best bet would be to pick a few off of the shelf, along the lines of those suggested about and see which styles you enjoy.

One to throw into the pot if you like fairly light reds are Cru Beajolais (don't think Beajolais Nouveau - these are far better wines). They will be named after the villages, such as Morgon, Chenas, Moulin-a-vent, Regnie, Fleurie and a few others I can't remember.
