Recording Electric Guitar

I am looking at the best low cost way of recording electric guitar and amp to my LAPTOP running Sonar LE

My tube amp has an emulated output which I have run into the line input on the laptop but results were iffy and latency was really bad

Anybody on here recording

do not want to mike up the cab and yet I would like to use the amp itself instead of using a modeller

Any ideas ?

I use a Line 6 Pod X3 connected to my MAC via USB through Garage Band which works extremely well and produces a nice clean sound. You can pick up a Pod X2 on eBay relatively cheaply plus you get an effects box.
