A while back I posted asking for some course recommendations to download on my Shotmiser, so apologies for a similar but slightly more focused request. I have a number of downloads to burn up by December and so my focus is now:

  • Recommended courses in Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire
Top courses where people are likely to hold forum meets
Courses I should just play because they are special

All suggestions gratefully received

I would recommend Menzie Golf Hotel in Cambridge. Decent layout and a decent test of golf. Always in pretty good condition. Can play 7 days a week using 2fore1 & Greenfree vouchers which makes it £20 a round at weekends.
Or
Wyboston Lakes just outside St. Neots. I think this is a nice little track with some real nice holes and in the summer months plays really well. Flat course so nice and easy on the legs.

Brett Vale, Essex / Norfolk borders. There's only 3 holes that are "meh". The rest are very good for the price.

Thanks to you both. Bratty I've played Brett Vale and definitely agree with your assessment (Death or Glory killed me btw :)

I've currently got every course in Suffolk +

Blackmoor
The Belfry (all 3)
Forest of Arden (both)
The Grove
Hankley Common
Royal Ascot
Stoke by Nayland (both)
Thetford
Theydon Bois
Wensum Valley (both)

Any more recommendations?

Courses in Norfolk I can think of are Hunstanton, Sheringham, Dunston Hall, Kings Lynn, Barnham Broom.

Add Royal Cromer to that list. In my area I have played nearly all but I would recommend Frinton, Colchester and Colne Valley. Havn't played Stoke by Nayland or Forrester Park yet and there are a few members on here who are members at FP.

Essex:

Ones I have played:

Benton Hall - near Witham (home club - happy to introduce you!)
Channels - near Chelmsford - some of the course is around reclaimed gravel workings, so plenty of water.
The Essex - near Earls Colne - it's flat, but always in good condition and well shaped holes.
Five Lakes, Lakes course - Neil Coles designed - made quite a good course out of some fairly unprepossessing Essex coastland.
Forrester Park, Great Totham - nice little club. Green always in good condition. Course a bit of a mixture - some nice holes on the old part of the course, some a bit up and down on the newer part. We always host our PTA golf day there as it is very welcoming and suits players of all abilities.

Colchester GC and Chelmsford GC are both nice traditional courses - they are members' clubs, so not sure if they do green fees.

One's I have heard good things about:

Stisted
and
The Warren.
