As the title says! Any recomendations for courses to play in east mids area?

Its my old mans 50th birthday and want to take him out for a days golf.

Not looking at pauing silly amounts of money

Thanks

Im coming from leicester. Im looking at greetham valley, has anyone played there?

Know the course very well. Typical hotel golf course. It is ok but nothing to get excited about. I would say about my place but it is probably a bit too far to go to Spalding.

I have only played there a couple of times but really enjoyed Park Hill at Seagrave just North of Leicester.

Know it well. 2 nice courses but busy so can show signs of wear. If you set your expectations at pkaying a good hotel course and you will not be far out. Normally some great deals for 2 rounds and lunch etc. Also if you want food and it is not included go into greetham village and go to the wheatsheaf. Great food and beer (was there only last week).

Sherwood Forest is a peach, little pricey but very nice. Coxmoor and Notts Hollinwell are also lovely, but I suspect Hollinwell will be too pricey. And my stock answer to anything Midlands related is The Hotchin at Woodhall Spa, bit of a trek but superb. I wasn't that impressed by The Arden, but I did get it on a wet weekend. Plus it's in the West Midlands, skip. ;)

Longcliffe is decent but not somewhere I would want to take someone as a special treat. Park hill has gone down hill quite a lot over the last couple of years. The opening of the new a46 would make a decent trip to Woodall or Forrest pines. Belfry is only 45 mins too so plenty to choose from.

Certainly wouldn't recommend mine in its current state!

Hinckley Golf Club now has a head greenkeeper who has worked at Wentworth, in the past year he's turned the greens in to some of the best i've played on in this country. It's my old course I was a member at for 12 years before moving to London. It has always been a decent course but now the greens are exceptional, so it's worth a visit.
