Has anyone played Reading Golf Club in Berkshire?
I have a match there and was wondering what its like.
Ive been on there website but not many pictures.
Thanks

Was a member there for 4 years as a kid. Nice course tough start, and cracking last hole. You play either side of a valley, and also through the middle of it. Hope you like hills.

With the ground so hard you do not want to miss some of the par threes, as your ball will just keep rolling away from the green. The fifth hole has a fantastic tee shot from the top of the hill down into the valley. Used to be able to get close to the green, but think they have added some bunkers since i left. Par 3 sixth is a totally blind tee shot back up the hill.

Always used to be in good condition with nice greens, but haven't played there since the 1978.

Did have my name on the honours board, but they may have got rid of the boards dating back to the 70's. ;)

I imagine MashieNiblick has played their more recently.

Played it many times. I quite like it. Always seems in good nick and a good test of golf with some tight holes, especiallty at the start. Interesting uphill par 3 (6th) with green about 50 feet above the tee usually plays at least 2 clubs longer than yardage on card. Nice halfway hut too. As richart says nice finishing hole (445 yards). If it has withstood the dry weather, and you can keep your ball on the fairway, I think you'll enjoy it.

Always think the 18th is overrated. Many of my friends think the first 4 holes are a bit boring, but they're fine if not too exciting. First is a couple of good smacks to start with.
12th is a great long par 4; 15th is much more unique Par3 over a valley to a very narrow green up on the side of a hill
17th is fun - a few years back the clever play was to go up the 5th on the RHS, as there is a bunker all the way across the fairway at driving length

Enjoy - tiny bit of a reputation for being a bit snobbish, but it's Reading so anyway acting that way is putting it on ;)

Whatever you do don't play the 17th driving down the fifth. It is completely the wrong direction. :D Sev112 means the 4th unless they have changed the hole numbers since i left !

Hope you enjoy the course, it has very fond memories for me. Last round i played there in a competition i shot a gross 72, and won 6 golf balls from the Sunday Express for keeping a six off the card !!
