Ram Zebra Mallet Putter

I think one of these was my first 'proper' putter - certainly first mallet.

Classic mallet characteristics - solid for short putts but long putts needed delicate touch to avoid being 5' short or 5' long.

Later model had changeable weight via a plate on sole.

Cut one down to about 28" for the wee man. Its an all time classic.

Thanks chaps, it certainly beats my 30 yr old unbranded current one. My putting has actually been the strongest part of my game, all things in perspective though it's still poor. This was my last club to be replaced so now I'm all set with no excuses ;)

Had one when first come out in the 90s i remember it had a zebra stripe wooly putter cover with it also. it had 3 or 4 screws underneath putter and in side it had washers acting as weights held down by a 13mm nut and bolt. great putter but cant remember what happened to mine.

Had one of these in my bag since they were "all the rage" in the 90's... Think they've been around longer than that though... Like the way it sits behind the ball and its unfussy looks gives me added confidence... The fact that it is face balanced complements the way I try and putt... I try and move the putter head back and thru' in a straight line rather than an arc... Did acquire one of the later models [with a face insert] on returning from a break in playing but the older version stays in the bag for longer periods... Think thats more to do with the pace of the greens where I regularly play...

I remember back in the early 90's the former Europeans tour player Paul Curry's father in law who owned a golf shop in Long Melford,Suffolk told me Curry put a Zebra putter in he's bag for the last round and promptly shot I think it was a 62 to win the Jersey Open. You do see them from time to time used nowdays.

Still got one. Good club.

There were two types. One had a removable baseplate that allowed you to change the weights. Advanced for its day.

I have the solid aluminium headed one with a red inset.

I believe Nick Price used one to good effect in winning the 1994 Open at Turnberry.

Check out the video at about 33 secs (you can't see the putter too well but the result is impressive!).

You can see from my sig that I have, and use, the one you mention. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago new - water damaged stock with a little light rusting on the shaft for a tenner- and have used it ever since. You can still buy them new in Australia for $79.95.
