Quick question regarding the r15 Driver

Am i correct in think that as a general rule of thumb, these (like the SLDR) need to be lofted up slightly ore than a normal driver?

I have the option of a 12 degree head but normally have a 10.5. I do hit a high ball normally

Also

Does anyone have any experience of the TP model? How is the shaft in comparison to the non TP version? I am hoping it will be a bit more stout than a standard Stiff flex

Thanks in advance

I think it was accepted that TM's "Loft Up" slogan was another of their gimmicks.

As an aside. What's up with the 915?

The 915 goes like a rocket, but its not half as forgiving as my old i25 (which i kind of regret selling). The 915 is a D3 though, so built for better players than little old me.

I am also dabbling with an X-flex shaft. I am finding that unless i put a big swing on it, i am not really getting the most out of it. My SS with the Driver is 111 give or take, so just on the limits of x flex.

Just not 100% that the D3 is the club for me

loft up is very relevant to driver models where the cg and weight is forwards for low spin as more static loft to get dynamic loft at impact is needed - as the sldr so loft up pretty crucial given a non flip swing motion and more relevant also given slower clubhead speed.
r15 is a little ways different in cg placement - tp version has a rip phenom 65g S

OP you would need to know the usual average strike location in relation to center - above/below horizontal face center, LA, AoA, and swing speed of driver flight to begin to answer what static loft would be optimum.

taking in swing speed and if the flight as a norm is high a r15 at 12º probably isn't a good ways to go

That was probably my suspicion too.

Just popped to the range on my lunch and was hitting the 915 sweet as a nut. Big part of me misses my i25 though. Thats a cracking club

I'm slightly out of date with TM Drivers, but (apart from some rare cases - only 1 I know of) the TP model was the same head as the 'normal' version - but with real (as opposed to 'made for TM') shafts. Adjustability is also enhanced - 2* as opposed to 1.5 for the normal one.

Don't take this the wrong way, but.......

110 Swing speed and playing off 18 (though targeting 14)?! That swing speed should enable you to have short irons into most Par 4s and be getting to many/most Par 5s in 2! Is your Driving helping or hindering? If it's not your Driving that's holding you back, then what is it? Should you be focusing your resources on Driving/Drivers or on improving your weakness(es)?

Trust me i wont Foxy, as i am of a very similar mindset. Knowing how well i "can" hit a ball, leaves me very embarrassed that my HC is still so high.

On my day i can hit a ball miles, but i am wild with it at times (to often). Its not just the driver though as i can hook a Hybrid or long iron better than anyone else on earth.

I can go round in the low 80's and high 90's, its really frustrating and has been really disheartening this last year. I have booked in a series of lessons to try and rectify, with my first one tomorrow.

If i play with strangers they often look at one of my decent drives with open mouths, then 5 holes later they are chuckling at how bad i can be.

I have just switched fromSLDR S 12 to a 10.5 R15

getting most consistency by cranking it up

To be honest I have not got a clue why you don't buy another i25, you recognise the fact you have dropped a clanger in selling, but the i25 worked well for you so why look to go massively out of the box. If the i25 worked for you why not look at another Ping ?

I lofted up by simply adopting a better posture at address and changing the angle of attack. A lot less expensive (though not as much fun) than a new driver. Still using 10 degrees but the ball flying and carrying further

That's the proper thing to do - provided coach takes the right approach and gets your mechanics/sequencing right, as opposed to getting you to overly reduce you speed!

I have a mate who has an even higher swing speed (116) who gradually wound it back 'for consistency'! Problem was that the results were merely masking the issue and his first Winter lesson (with Flightscope) was along the lines of 'what's this girlie (93mph - still a few mph better than mine!!) swing you've acquired?!!' It's a huge advantage having that swing speed! The key is using it properly. Mate is back up to nearly top speed and, with greater confidence, is mostly straight.

Oh and he has been a Ping man forever! Though changed from I15 to G30/Tour Stiff.

Ive not ruled it out. Keeping my on on Ebay currently, just on the off chance

Ta pal

Had a nosey and they have nothing listed currently.

TBH i currently have a 915d3 and an Adams XTD (brand new really). Think flogging these will go a long way to a proper driver fitting. Tour X is just down the road from me....
