Does anyone else think this is the most underated part of the club golf game?

All you ever people say at the bar is "Oh he can hit it a long way."

To which my reply is, "Yes but can he putt."

So many low guys positively loathe putting but being a Cat 3 player I love it because it's such a leveller.

Anyone can be a good putter given time and the proper teaching.

Also golfers think nothing of spending £250 on a new driver which they might only use 14 times in a round but how much do they spend on their putters?

Then think how many times you use it?

I think the majority know that putting is probably the most important part of the game , after all some can hit the ball 450yds in 2 shots but take a further 3 shots to move it 10 yards !

I've just bought a new one for £110 but would have paid the same as I did for my driver if it could guarantee making more putts

I don't underestimate the importance of putting at all. It can make a bad round look very good and a very good round look quite bad.

The other day I had puts from inside 12 feet, with less than 2 holes worth of break on 8 of the first 9, 3 for par, one for eagle and the rest for birdie. I only made one of them and that was the eagle. 9 holes which could easily have easily set me up for one of my best ever rounds, and I ended up playing only 1 under my handicap with an 81. Was one of the best ball stiking rounds I've had for a very long time.

I didn't put particularly badly really, just couldn't hole anything. The most important and most frustrating part of the game for sure.

For me putting can make or break a hole. A good putt could save a poor build up, but also three putting could also ruin a good drive and approach play.

It's also the one thing that I always check by going out on the practice green first as the speed of the greens always change at my place. All we can do with the rest of our clubs is a pre round warm up

Othe than the driver, it's the one club I've swapped the most but have still come back to the connemara.

My achilles heel at the moment. On the practice green, I'm really happy with my putting but as soon as I get out on the course, I just seem to 3 putt all the time. It's killing my scores. Had a putting lesson last week and the pro said it is purely in my head. I can't disagree with him!

Just got a new putter, milled version and working hard on my putting at the moment using the V-Easy and somebasic drills. Its coming. Its definitely coming

Putting is crunch time. If you can't get it in with one or two putts you can't score well however well the previous shots have been.

They do say putting is a game in a game. My putter should have cost £219.99 but got it for £99.99. Its the best part of my game. Good job really if you saw the rest of it.

Think it was faldo who said you don't have to be a good golfer to be a good putter, and many a grandma with her handbag on her arm could putt better than a lot of pro's.

Putting without a doubt is the most important. I've seen people hit GIR but still double bogey because they have 4 putted from less than 15 foot.

Got my eye on another rife for slower greens lets hope auction snipe is successful :thup:

Maybe, BUT what's a good putter? How do you judge the "standard".
Amount of putts per round? Number of putts made under 10 foot?
Who knows.

I had 33 putts today. It could easily have been 36, or could have been 29 or 30.
I missed one under 6 foot and made one over 15 foot.

Am I good or bad?

it's all down to personal preference but I've tried a lot of putters including Ansers, Fishers, yes and rife but not tried a Scotty. Found some I liked and hated but none beat my md connemara,

Are Scotty's that much better than everything else?

I don't think its underrated at all! Everyone talks about the bad day on the greens or the day everything dropped!
Everyone i know spends more time on the putting green than the range!

You seldom three putt from the middle of the green.

All shots are important.

History tells us Doug Saunders missed a short putt on the 72nd green of the Open at St Andrews to tie Nicklaus for the Open.
He lost the 36 hole play off by two shots.

He also dunked his short pitch into the Swilken Burn on the 1st hole of that Open to take a six.

So ....all shots are important from the first drive to the last putt.
