So what is it about big name pro's that makes you love or loathe them?

What about Tiger? No personality, never acknowledges the crowd except when he's wining. Alternatively, the guy is 100% focussed and blots out the surroundings.

Monty? Gruff, arrogant non aproachable? Seemed a very nice guy when he won this year.

Sergio? Charismatic golden boy? Disgusting fella who spits in the hole he's just played?

Poulter? Flamboyant, showy, larger than life? Bit of a Jack the Lad?

Any thoughts people?

Unless you know these people personally its impossible to make a judgment in my eyes.

My favourite golfer is Sergio simply because he is about my age, loves using his irons, crap at putting and not afraid of showing emotion.

Sorry been a short answer

I was once a decent rugby player and it really gets on my nerves when people make their judgements from a few 5 minute interviews, seeing them play a few times or trying to speak to them when they are on holiday, spending time with family etc.

Rant over, thanks, same time next week

May have touched a raw nerve there with you mate.
Of course nobody knows the star golfers personally but we have all seen their mannerisms and to some extent their personalities both on and off the golf course (courtesy of the telly!)

I've seen interviews with Tiger. The time and setting is obviously pre arranged. Tiger seems at ease and shows a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the game and seems at pains to teach others, particularly those of an underpriveleged position. Seems a nice guy! Saying that, I don't know him!!!

Not really mate. I just said in an earlier post im at the parents in law and looking for an argument or something to kill some time.

But we digress, back to the post, yes he does seem a nice guy, just the same as all the others, all the players have their own idiosyncrasies some more appealing than others.

I'm one of the older posters and wouldn't expect the younger guys (or girls) to be that familiar with Jack Nicklaus. He was a tremendous golfer, a gent, a good loser, an ambassador for the game and his country. And he never spat in the hole.

shanker, this was true of ALL the older generation golfers, Palmer, Player, Trevino, and some of the not so old, Norman, Jacklin, Watson. I think it started to change with that generation though, as the money went in . . .
