Prime Drink - Can someone explain…..

No of schools have banned it.. some school still allow it. There is a fair bit of trade happening among the kids.

Excellent business model where the influencers have driven a craze. Then there is artificial scarcity. Only allow 3 per person. Then spread news of fights breaking out, peer pressure etc. driving sales up big time. My friend travelled to India. His nephew asked him for Prime as Christmas gifts. A few of the school dads are on various waiting lists and have rocked up early to get it

At nipper’s school some of the boys brought it in. He tasted it and apparently tasted of ‘Calpol’. Thankfully he is not bought into it.

Excellent Business Model? Really?

Poor product, over promote, ration, scheme and exploit.

And have a word with the "few of the school dads who are on waiting lists"

Gone before you know it and onto the next scam scheme

Indeed.. this is how things work now… big hype, celebrity influencer, quick money, not so great product. Lifecycle of <12 months… and then onto the next shiny thing.. money in the bank. Excellent if you know how to monetise it ..

Lol, you dont half buy in to fads dont you. Just because it works for a very small number of companies doesnt make it a decent business model with any intrinsic value, longevity or sustainability

Well not me, yes I buy golf gear, but other than Tiger wearing Nike I'd be hard pushed to say who pushed what, and in the case of Nike I didn't buy their stuff precisely because Tiger wore it, so, anti-marketing

This kind of response genuinely baffles me more than these energy drinks fans. Essentially what you are saying is "I know there are these huge industries in advertising and marketing but none of it works on me and I've never bought anything cause of an advert"

Not really… new biz model are increasingly based on such things. NFT earlier this year, ANC/GameStop showed it can work in equity. Those pushing on this are not looking to build the next Unilever or Volkswagen .. they are looking to drive the hype, make money and then move to the next one. Some of this operate on ‘greater fool theory’ : but everyone knows this

As @Lord Tyrion mentioned, fast fashion is similar. Zara, H&M key players in this space. Zara’s owner Inditex is one of the most valuable companies due to such an approach.

Just because middle aged men like you and I don’t understand the fickleness of this (or the shortened life cycle) does not make it a bad biz model.

What's vulnerable about them? Are they anymore vulnerable than the guy who's wastes his cash on the lastest carbon faced driver ?

You should really talk to your kids or grandkids about this - you will find they are far more savvy than you think. You sneer at people buying an energy drink cause a person they feel they have a relationship with endorses the product. A parallel would be you reading the reviews on the John Lewis website of a set of pans before you bought it. It's highly unlikely that was written by some pan enthusiast somewhere - far more likely that someone (somewhere) was paid to write an review and that review was then syndicated to multiple retailers to post on their site.

People trust the opinions of their friends and family over say TV adverts. But, say 20 years ago your "relationship" with David Beckham was such that you saw him on TV on Saturday and then when he appeared in an advert for Gillette you paid vague attention to it but probably forgot about it. Social media changes this dynamic. Now I get messages from KSI or Mr Beast delivered personally to me on my phone. I read their tweets on the same screen I read messages from family - mostly when I'm sitting by myself. People now feel they have a real relationship with people they follow on twitter. So when Logan Paul says I recommend this people treat it as a recommendation from a friend.

The point I was making was I understand how it works, but just because something is short term profitable for the company doesnt make it a successful business model (unless you only judge success on short term profit which i dont), for me a successful business model needs far more to it than that

It’s doesn’t need to be a long term thing for these guys though, the shelf life of an influencer (I’m guessing) is much like some celebs, short term, there’s always something newer and fresher right around the corner ready to take their mantle.
They need to make hay while they still can, if people are daft enough to buy this stuff then so be it, good luck to them I say.

How does that baffle you? I buy golf clothes because I play golf, generally I buy Under Armour because it fits me best, including their shoes which are superb, also will buy club logo stuff, so tend to be stuck with whatever that club including my own buys (which for my away club is....tada....Under Armour). So how am I buying because of an advert? I'm literally buying what suits me best, I've got no idea who wears UA gear, so how is their advertising working?
