potential new golf club

nice one, that your first golf club? have you been out yet?
Yes, first club I have joined. I've played there a few times and it's a beautiful course. I become a full member at beginning of march, with any green fees paid until then deducted from my membership costs.

yeah the range is only good if you have something to work on, i don't play regular enough yet to know lol soon i'll be at range every week haha

I recently re-applied to join Crowborough Beacon despite being a member there previously, and had to sit in on a "one to one" interview with the new Secretary.
He was very keen to emphasise the new "relaxed" attitude within the club and was very excited about the social aspects of club life.
"You'll love Monday evenings Robert, a few of us get together and get a poker game going. You are more than welcome to join us" he said.
He was a little disappointed when I replied that I wasn't very keen on gambling and I would decline the offer.
"Oh well, never mind" he said. "Tuesday nights are good, a few more of us meet in the bar and have a right old drinking session, often carrying on until the wee small hours. It's great fun. Again, you are more than welcome to join us, integrate, that sort of thing"
"I'm sorry Graham, I'm not a big drinker" I replied. "I'll give that one a miss too".
I could see he was a little disappointed.
"You're not Gay are you?" he asked.
"No of course I'm not" I replied, getting a little annoyed by his suggestion.
"Damn. You won't enjoy Wednesday nights either then".

 . Nice one sweetie. .

ha ha ha... very good!

i had 2 interviews prior to being offered a membership firstly a formal interview with the sec. and 3 board members full regalia best whistle and clean shiny shoes, got asked the usual questions regarding past clubs any problems whilst there if i was of good character etc etc the second was with the captain and 2 committee members this was a bit more casual and was more to see if i was going to be an active member of the social side etc then my name had to go on the notice board for 3 weeks to see if any objections by other members, after this i was formally invited to become a member by the chairman of the club,£2400 later i was given a club badge ( for the blazer worn at special functions and a club tie )my membership card and a bar/entry card and access to as much golf i could wish for,was it worth the hassle ohh yes and then some.

bloody hell, i thought at the bottom you were gonna say you had some initiation to do lol don't you think that could put people off?

Which course did you plump for?

Is that where thecraw is a member? If so, run. Run like the wind and never look back. On a more serious note, jacket and tie for definate. Better to overdress than underdress.

For gods sake do not mention that you know Crawford. Blackballing might still exist there.

I am with the other guys. Jacket and tie is a must. I know that a local club here where the secretary tests your knowledge of basic golf rules which I thought was a bit odd....

Which course did you plump for?
Ashton in makerfield or as we like to call it ROYAL ASHTON not like that now if you can afford the £1000 joining your in, and you can pay your green fees in 2 stages, loads of work being done so should be back to one of the best courses around here this year, also we are having a state of the art simulator and fitting centre built as i write so the money at least is going back into the club.

meeting over, took 20 mins and was just a pleasant conversation with the sec and a committee member, pretty straight forward. can start anytime now, get in :D. thanks for the input folks
