Potential Drought problems this summer

whoa hang on fragger, why should we let the southerners have our water they laugh when they see the forecast and see its raining up north and what about us trudging around in the bloody stuff wet grips soaking feet NO when they can share the sunshine we will share our water .

So let us take some of it away for you, solves your wet feet problem ( you might want to get some new shoes)

Fragger :-)

I also do a fair bit of flyfishing. Down south quite a few years ago were filling in their reservoirs and building on them. Queen Mother res. For example. A concrete bowl res. in London. The idea being they would nick the water from the north as they said they had pipework set up to do it.

Belton Park does. They have an irrigation pond (which is massive) that they installed around 10 or 12 years ago, and since then the course has been in incredible condition year on year. It's also positioned to the left of the 13th Tee, so anything pulled is wet. Don't want to go too far right either as the rough is thick and long...Luckily I coasted one slap bang in the middle of the fairway on saturday....then bladed my second shot into the ditch that runs across the front of the green

Playing there soon is it still in good nick? No temp Tees/Greens?. Just over a month when I am going. Only ask as I know Lincs have had a lot of nasty weather recently.

Just seen on the news that they are having a drought summit today. Nothing for the jocks to worry about, seems you've had plenty of rainfall however the south east, east anglia and the midlands are facing the worst drought for 35 yrs this summer with many reservoirs at very low levels.

Likely to be some knock on effect for golf clubs who don't have their own water sources, I know we have limitations of how much water we can use each year and with many courses getting too dry last yr those especially are likely to really struggle

My goodness, all this drought talk! We've had enough rain in the last 24 hours in the north west to supply the whole country with water for the next year! Spongy courses for us over the next few weeks! It's supposed to be 14-16 degrees on Thursday and dry so hopefully the course will dry up a little!

Yep. Played there Saturday. They will still on Temp tees on most holes (but they're not range mats, they use artificial grass areas which are a bit better (at least you can get a tee in the ground) but were on full greens which despite feeling "spongy" under foot, were running fairly quick and were truer than a true thing.

By the time you play it, I suspect they'll be back on full tees and the greens will be even better. Hopefully they'll have full re-opened the 4th hole too. They were doing bunker work - if it is re-open, good luck with that! Don't miss the green left or right! :D

Cheers. 2nd April we are due to play there so I will check before we go to make sure they are back to the normal Tees. Looking forward to it now.

Isn't that the reason Cameron was up meeting with Alex last week. The south of Englandshire are wanting to buy some water off us up here.:)

Unless I am grossly mistaken Queen Mother Reservoir is still in Datchet as a reservoir... As are all the other "concrete bowl" type reservoirs to the west of London...

Problem lies with the fact that they have been building homes like its going out of fashion in the South East without adding to the water supply infrastructure...

It's strange as I was thinking this the other day, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've played in proper rain not just a shower. I play every weekend whatever the weather too.
